We are looking for a middle name for Emma, if we have a girl. Also, how do you feel about 2 middle names? For a boy, Ryan Murray John after my dh and dad, and maybe for a girl, Emma __________ Isla (pronounced eye-la) after my grandma. If we go with Emma Isla I'd like maybe a one-syllable name for in between. Opinions?

Hi!

Emma is such a sweet, simple name, that I like a sweet, simple mn to match (maybe on the old-fashioned side...):

Emma Beatrice

Emma Beth

Emma Belle

Emma Caroline

Emma Catherine

Emma Charlotte

Emma Christie

Emma Claire (like John Edwards' little girl!)

Emma Corinne

Emma Grace

Emma Ivy

Emma Jane

Emma Joy

Emma Juliet

Emma Kate

Emma Lauren

Emma Louise

Emma Lucy

Emma Rose

As far as 2 middle names, I personally would not do it, because I think it really just complicates things. I mean, how often do you use one middle name, let alone two? However, if there's a good reason to do it, such as to honor someone, I think it's more of a symbolic gesture and could be quite nice. There's no reason NOT to give 2 middle names -- plenty of people do it! And in your case, there's a good reason. Of course, you could always just choose to honor one person with your son and save the other name for your next child. And you could go with Emma Isla, even though the flow is admittedly not the best. After all, the point is to honor your grandmother, and it's not like your daughter will often use her full name.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

I usually am not big on two middle names but I had two people plus a name I just really liked for my son. I did eventually narrow it down to just a fn and one mn, but it was hard. So, I know how you feel! I see nothing wrong with Emma Isla. That's very pretty. Not a perfect flow, but it's after someone special...

However, if that's not suitable to you, and you decide to go with another mn, the idea of a short/one syllable name between is still fine. Altogether Emma still won't have as many letters in ALL THREE NAMES as some first names!

I don't think I have anything new to add for suggestions after reading the other posts, so I'll just tell you the ones I like personally:

What I don't like so much:

Emma Grace Isla, Emma Clare, or Emma Rose Isla is beautiful, but all of these names are very popular.

I don't like Leigh b/c then it sounds more like Emily.

My picks:

Emma Jane Isla, Emma Ann Isla, Emma Kate Isla, Emma Joy Isla

Good luck! Ginger
