We are expecting our fourth child, a girl, in July and are searching for a middle name. We think we have decided on Emmitt as a first name but are trying to find a feminine middle name. Any suggestions would be appreciated!! Our other children are Dalton Creeke and Tarik(like Derrick w/ a "T")

Emmitt Smith will appreciate that he's unheard of and has a feminine name. *grin* Yeah, it's not common, but that's probably why Emmett is starting to have a resurrection for boys (has risen from #803 with 169 births in 1992 to #569 with 432 births in 2006, with a steady rise for all 15 years,) since the more common hot male names are...well, you can probably guess the rest of that sentence.

Emmitt Smith retired years ago is no longer anymore relavant in the world of sports or pop culture (as in naming someone after them)then Ozzie Smith or Wayne Gretzky...

good try though.

People still name their kids after Satchel Page, and he's been dead for decades, so I'm not really sure your point about Emmitt Smith's retirement invalidating his effect on the naming culture is that strong--guys can hang onto sports icons for a looooooong time.

As far as Emmitt not showing up in your parts, it's possible that the trend hasn't hit there yet...it's definitely a rising tide.
