Middle name for Jonny or Edie

Hi

We're not sure of the sex of our baby button - due September.
If it's a boy he will probably be Jonny, after my grandfather who very recently passed away. Our surname is Knight...what would be a good middle name?

For a girl we're loving Edie right now...any suggestions for a middle name?

Halle Blossom is lovely, first off. ;)

Was "Jonny" your grandfather's given name, or did you mean Jonny would be a nn for Jonathan, John, Giovanni, etc.? It's hard to suggest mns without being sure of the fn, if that makes sense.

The same goes for Edie, which is a very sweet nn for Edith or Eden or something similar, but seems very informal on its own (especially next to Halle, which is a complete name all on its own).

My first thought for a mn was Flora, FWIW.

My grandfather was John, but we prefer the informality of Jonny - which would be the given name.
For Edie, I really love Eden - and Edie for nn - but my husband is partially to just Edie, I think I can talk him around to Eden - after all, he can always just call her Edie.

I agree with the PP. It's nice the YOU like the informality of Jonny, but once your son grows up, he will probably prefer a more formal name to use in the workforce. I would use John, call him Jonny 100% of the time and at least give him that option. I would STRONGLY, strongly recommend that.

Same with Edie... I do think Halle and Eden go very nicely together. But definitely, DEFINITELY use John nn Jonny! He will thank you for it!!

Do you plan to name him Jonny? Or is Jonny a nickname for Jonathan or John? I recommend giving your son a more formal first name and use the nn Jonny. How about your husband's first or middle name as Jonny's middle name? Or perhaps your maiden name?

Will Edie be a nickname for Edith or Eden? Eden seems more your style and is so pretty!

Eden Summer
Eden Laurel
Eden Paige
Eden September (I like the name September, and since that is when she'll be born, it's only fitting!)

Edie September or Eden September are my favorites (assuming you want a fun and sweet middle name like Halle's).

Thankyou for all your lovely replies
We'll definately think about the formal name/nn thing

The middle name suggestions were great, and I think we will use something playful and fun for a girl, but perhaps something a little more formal for a boy (boys tend to get made fun of more for funny names i think)

Jonny Quinn sounds cute to me! Also, I looooove Edie on it's own. I wouldn't use it as a NN but on it's own it's so cute and perfect.

I know this issue has already been beaten to death, but Jonny as a given name sounds like a girl to me, esp.
