Is it okay to use a middle name that you wouldn't use as a first name? My name is Allison so I wouldn't use Addison as a first name for a girl. Also, my son is William (Will) so I wouldn't use Grace as a first name for a girl. Would it be okay to use either of these as middle names? Thanks!

Some names, to me, sound better as a middle name than a first name to me. So I definitely can understand why you wouldn't want to use some names as first names. I don't see why it would be a problem if you'd use it for a middle name. That name association (like Will & Grace) would easily be lost if you used Grace as a middle name.

Of course it would be okay, however I do prefer family names or names with significance, not just names that weren't good enough to be the first name.

I think the middle name slot is a great place to put names you love but can't use as first names, either because of cultural references or other names in the family. I say go for it. They both make fine middle names.

Funny--my name is Alison, too, and I have Addison listed on my "middle name only" list for the same reason.

Yes, I think it's perfectly okay to do that.
