Do you happen to know the meaning of MeLei?
My aunt and uncle are adopting a baby girl from China & I know they've been looking for an Asian name that isn't too "out there".

I don't think Milo is a "weird" name at all, but honestly, it hasn't grown on me yet. I can't help thinking of a cat- is the movie Milo & Otis about a cat? I don't think if you name your son Milo, he will be picked on b/c of that movie. By the time he is of school age, I'm sure that movie won't even be on the radar of the other students in his class.

I do like the idea of Miles with the nn Milo. :)

As far as MeLei goes- I'm not really a fan of having a capital letter in the middle of a name (looks a little made up to me that way), but it sounds really pretty. :)

I like the name Milo. I agree with PP you could always name him Miles nn Milo.

MeLei seems like a gorgeous name, too.

MeLei is our spelling because there is not a direct translation into the English alphabet, but the pronunciation is (may-lee), so you could spell it any number of ways.

I do see it more as a pet's name. I didnt like the name and when I told you that everyone freaked and said you had already chose the name. But if your asking comments you dont seem too sure about the name so I am being honest (some people take it wrong) and my opinion is it is more a pet name and i do think he will be picked on. Some people in here are so positive-crazy like its a no-no to say negative things and if you didnt want to hear both sides, you wouldnt have asked, so there. good luck and I actually do like the girl name you picked.

No one commented on your Milo comment...they commented on your snarky "no comment" on Axel...who is already named.

How cold is it under your bridge?

I agree I also like Milo, I dont think its bad at all and think it goes with Nicole and Mason just fine. I have seen horrible names on here that people just love and am shocked at so many that dont like Milo.

Looks like I'm chiming in late in regard to the fuss about our new baby's name! LOL.

armywife/crysgirl/jen: It's not your opinion of Milo that caused the comments, it was your comment on our son Axel's name. And to that I would reply: You were more than welcome to contribute before we had the baby and were looking for opinions (which I did seek on this board), but I agree with the others -- it takes some chutzpah to make such a comment now after the name is chosen, the baby is born and has been so named. Especially since it's in a thread that has nothing to do with our son's name, and in which I was giving an encouraging and supportive reply to the OP about *Milo*.

You really ought to learn the fine art of smiling and saying nothing at all, or saying "That's an interesting name!" when you do not like the name someone has chosen for their child. In addition to numerous of these types of gracious responses, we've gotten a handful of "What a great name!" replies from folks, too. But -- congratulations -- yours is the only outright negative one that we've received since he was born last week. I guess I'll credit this breech of manners to the anonymity the internet provides.

Thanks to the others of you who jumped in and made comments; I appreciate it. Axel is doing great since his birth one week ago today -- the only things is I keep calling him "Ike" (our 2yo son's name) and am trying to get over that, lol! He nurses and sleeps like a champ -- I'm only having to get up once in the night right now which is so, so nice.

God bless,

Darla
