mn hardly used - like maiden name for mn

I've always loved names, so I like reading this message board. I have two little boys and I gave them both my maiden name as their middle names. Throughout my life, I just have never seen middle names used much, so I thought it wouldn't cause any embarrassment to my kids to give them my maiden name and it would be nice to represent part of my family's heritage in their names. I think the middle initial is important, however, so the three initials don't spell anything embarrassing. I guess if you want to name your child after someone, then the middle name could have some meaning, but a lot of time the middle name seems like it was chosen because it was the "second-choice" first name for the child. Of course, my middle name is "Marie" which was THE filler middle name in the 1960s (along with "Ann") so it never had much meaning for me and I dropped it when I got married and use my maiden name as my middle name. My mother recently informed me, however, that she put a lot of thought into choosing Marie.

My first name is Alison, spelled with one L, which as you can see from my message name, is how I have to end up introducing myself when my name has to be spelled: Alison...with one L! (I've had people argue with me that that is not the way to spell Alison.) I gave both my boys simple names : Sam (Samuel) and Andy (Andrew). No spelling involved!
