MN's Elizabeth and Marie

Are these still considered "filler" middle names. I know when I was growing up it seemed like every girl had one of these 2 middle names, with no real significance. Is this still true? It seems like Grace is the new filler mn of choice.
I am considering Marie as mn potential for the baby we are expecting as it was my grandmother's middle name, but don't want it to be overdone or seem like I was just unoriginal. Thoughts?
Just for reference, the fn we are most likely using is Caroline.

Thanks belle_petite for the siggy!

I do think Marie, Elizabeth, Ann, Lynn, Leigh, Jo, etc. could still be considered filler middle names because they have been so popular and are generally chosen b/c they sound good with almost any first name.
However, if the name has meaning to you, then it is *not* a filler middle name. Also, I don't think that Marie is as popular now as it once was, so I doubt that half her class will have the same mn.
Caroline Marie is lovely -- great choice!

ITA. I think Grace is this generation new MN favorite. I was born in 1975. My middle name is Anne. My two sisters following me, there middle names were Marie and Lynn - LOL. I do agree with the other poster that said they were definitely more popular 20-30 years ago, but now not so much. I think Caroline Marie is very pretty!
Good Luck!
They are still filler mn's, and Grace has just been added to the list, but it is not a filler mn if you have meaning behind it, and I think Marie is a nice choice for you with the family significance.
