Hi Kelli,

How did you hear about and/or pick the name Devanie? "Devonny" has been a favorite of mine for years, but I found it in a novel a long time ago (I don't remember the name of it now) and I have never seen it or anything similar on any baby name site or anywhere else until I saw that your daughter has that (almost) same name. Do you have any info on Devanie/Devonny- origin, meaning, etc.?

Hi, Erin. ;)

I actually can't recall where I first saw/heard the name, though I do know it was in my first trimester with her, before we knew if she was even a girl, and I absolutely fell in love with it. I've been known to delve through old immigration, genealogy and, yes, even cemetary lists for interesting names, so it could have been anywhere (LOL), but I'm fairly sure it wasn't from a baby name book or site, per se ... though I have seen it listed in a few since.

Haha my sister and I had that same book series with Devonny: it was the teen girl series by Caroline Cooney (same author as "Face on the Milk Carton"), starting with "Both Sides of Time"... I loved those books when I was younger! My sister has Devonny on her long list : )

Do you pronounce it like de-VANE-ee or DEV-uh-nee?

I think it is beautiful, but my midwife's last name is DeVaney ... she might think I am naming my little girl after her!! LOL

More like the second -- DEV-uh-nee -- and definitely not the first (though she's gotten that before LOL). Sort of to rhyme with "Stephanie" or "d'ya have any" said quickly, if you read those comments in my original reply. ;)

On a sidenote, great to see someone else who uses a midwife! It's such a different experience

I was just programming a toy Aila got for her birthday and realized you could hear Devanie's name spoken here: http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=8051&e=phonedownload&selcat=kyn_dora&pid=36995

Dora doesn't do too bad a job, either. LOL In general, a fun site even if you don't happen to own the phone or doll it pertains to. ;)

Enjoy!

That's fun! The expression on Noah's face when the computer said his name was priceless. :) I may have to think about buying him one of these phones.

I'm impressed by how extensive their list is. I can't find every name I love, of course, but most are in there.

I know! Kate already had the Dora doll (Nana bought it for Christmas LOL), and I couldn't believe when I heard it say Devanie ... not one you hear every day. ;)

That's one of the reasons we got the phone for Aila's birthday. Figured anything we could get to say Devanie or Aila couldn't be passed up (especially at half price at Kohl's LOL).
