I recently asked all of you your opinions on Carter and Molly. We are still very undecided about our third baby's name. My dh suggested last night that we name a boy Thomas Jay. His grandfather's name is Thomas J. (his birth certificate only has J.) but we would use Jay. My great grandfather's name was Jay. I think it is a strong name and has a nice flow to it (I think of the boy on My Girl!). The only thing is, we only would want him called Thomas. Not Tom (like his grandfather) or Tommy. My son would love it since he adores Thomas the Train. LOL Our other children are Chloe and Owen and I think Thomas goes fine with them. Do you think people would just call him Thomas? That's the only thing that is holding me back.

Thanks!
Jacque

I love it! I'm sure they would call him Thomas. I know plenty of kids who go by their full names (ex. Matthew, Michael, Nicholas, and even a Thomas). I prefer it over Carter and it goes very nicely with Owen and Chloe. I DO think you need to reconsider Molly though, it sounds like a nn and doesn't age well. Thomas Jay is very nice though. I, too, think of the little boy from My Girl.

I have a cousin Thomas. He was always Thomas or Tommy as a kid, but now that he is 20, we all call him Thomas. I know his friends call him Tom or Thomas a lot. I don't think you will ever be able to control it totally, but when he is little, you can politely tell people that he is Thomas, not Tommy/Tom and most will do as you ask. I think Thomas Jay is a great sounding name!

My cousin's name is Thomas and as far as I can remember that is pretty much what we have always called him. Now that he is a bit older he might get a Tom here or there for short but I think only from his sisters and parents.

I have a 10 yr old nephew named Thomas and I don't know that anyone calls him Tom, although his dad occasionally calls him "T". I think Thomas Jay is a great name.

I think so, if you insisted, my friend has a Thomas, and I've heard her call him Tommy like once or twice, and every other time Thomas, so that's what I call him!

I love Thomas Jay! It's a great combination and it goes perfectly with your other children. I like Carter too, but I think Thomas is a much better match.

I have a close friend who named her son Thomas and that is all he is ever called or refered to. I think if you make it clear that his name is "Thomas", not Tommy or Tom, it will be fine !

My 7 year old daughter has a friend named Thomas. The kids once in a while will try out "Tommy" but he and his mom politely let them know that his name is Thomas and to everyone he IS Thomas, I would not think of him any other way.
Thomas Jay is wonderful if you like it best, go for it!!
