Hi everyone,
Thanks sooo much for all your input! It is so tough to try think of names while pregnant!! (as I'm sure many of you know) *smile* It's also difficult to think of different aspects of names, like teasing or feminine or other associations. So...that's why I'm so grateful to you all!!!! (don't mind me...just feeling a bit emotional at the moment!) :o)
In light of the comments and a bit of discussion with Ben (dear fiance):
For girls: We still really like Meredith, Rhiannon and Mallory. Decided to eliminate Kerenza and Seren (at least as first names). We like Alyssa and Kira, but worry they are too popular (are they where you live??). As for Chelsea, we're still unsure (well, Ben is anyway...I like the name at the moment). Also, I really like the suggestions of Avery and Adelaide. Do you think Avery is too unisex?
For boys: okay...I see the general consensus that Kennedy is used more for females, so that's gone from the list! Never thought of it as "girl name" but I see it now, when paired with Emerson. As for Sheldon, don't know now from the comments if I really think this is strong enough to pair with Emerson. Same for Gregory... Any thoughts??? We decided to remove Ambrose as a fn (the Amb'rose' spelling did it LOL!). Still really like Gabriel, Caleb, Parker and Alistair. Out of the new suggestions, I really like Jasper!
So...top list (for now):
Emerson and... Mallory, Meredith, Rhiannon, Avery, Adelaide, Maybe - Chelsea, Alyssa, Kira
Emerson and... Parker, Gabriel, Caleb, Alistair, Jasper, Maybe - Sheldon, Gregory.
Ben and I also need to start thinking of combos, so thought I may ask you all for some help there too please. Aaargh!!! This gets tougher each time I think about it! LOL!
Thanks for helping keep me sane! :)

Loving fiancee to Ben
Loving mom to Emerson Jade and "peanut" EDD Nov 16
PS) If it helps (for combos)...we have no family names that we really, really have to include. Jade was just a name I liked at the time (and still love), so wouldn't feel right to give "peanut" a family mn while Emerson doesn't have one. KWIM? Thanks again!!!

Here's a couple of websites that may be helpful for you. The first one has lists of first name/middle name that the author collected and people sent in. The second website is the SSA website and you can look up all sorts of things, like what names were popular in the state where you live.

I really like Mallory or Jasper for you. I personally think Gregory is masculine enough to hold it's own w/Emerson.
Take care,

I like the narrowing down that you've done. Here are my thoughts on the revised list.
Mallory -- like it a lot, though I don't think it's a great match with Emerson.
Meredith -- I'm biased here, but I love this one for you. I think it's a good fit.
Rhiannon -- I love this one for you too.
Avery -- definitely unisex, but going to the girls. I think it's a perfect fit with Emerson.
Adelaide -- nice, but I don't like it as much as the others
Chelsea -- love this one and don't hear it that often. Not quite as good a fit as Avery, Rhiannon or Meredith
Alyssa -- Alyssa itself is not overly popular, but paired with Elissa, Elisa, Elise, Alicia, Alisa, etc., it's quite popular. I hear variations on this all the time. It's nice, but doesn't stand out as much as your other names.
Kira -- ditto Alyssa. I dump Kira in with the uber trendy Kayla, Kaylee, Bailey, Hailey, Kiera, Kyra, etc names. They're everywhere.
My favorite girl combinations with Emerson Jade are....
Avery/Meredith/Rhiannon Claire
Avery/Meredith/Rhiannon Blythe
Avery/Meredith/Rhiannon June
Avery/Meredith Rose
Avery Tessa
Avery Kira
Avery/Meredith Lynn
Avery/Meredith/Rhiannon Giselle
Avery/Rhiannon Beth
Avery/Rhiannon Therese
Avery/Meredith Diane
Avery/Rhiannon Elisabeth
Avery/Meredith Frances
Avery/Meredith/Rhiannon Gail
Avery/Meredith/Rhiannon Kate/Cate/Cait
Avery Katherine/Catherine
Avery/Rhiannon Marie
Avery Maren
Avery/Meredith Rae
Parker -- this one is far too trendy for me, but I like it anyway (for other people ). It's
Yeah!
I suggested Adelaide and Jasper (and I really like Rhiannon, Mallory and Alistair with your dd's name :-)
With Emerson Jade:
Mallory Kira
Rhiannon Noelle
Rhiannon Chelsea
Adelaide Rhiannon
Avery Nicole
Avery Alyssa
Alistair Caleb
Jasper Monroe
Jasper Sheldon
Caleb Alistair
Good luck,
Karen
First I just have to say how funny it was reading your post because my name is Meredith and I was thinking of naming my daughter Rhiannon, but Dh just can't get behind it. They are both very good names(I've never regretted Meredith except that people have issues spelling it), and if you have Welsh roots I highly recommend choosing one of these.
As for Alyssa, Kira, Avery, Gabriel and Caleb, they all appear in the top 100 for 2005. This would knock them off my list, but if you really like them and don't mind popular names then go for it. They certainly all sound good. Although I think Emerson and Avery sounds best (of these few).
I would however suggest that you look into the meanings of these names to help you make your choice. I'm one of those people who believes that names should mean something, say something about your family/heritage or your hopes for your child. For example, my son was named for my great great grandfather and my father in law. But if you don't have family names that you like, as is the case with my dd (due 10/30), I recommend picking a name that means something to you. I was considering Claudia for dd because it sounded great with the family name that I had chosen for a mn until I read that it meant lame. Even though it sounds great, I just can't name my daughter something that means lame. So, sound is important, but maybe meaning can help make the decision for you.
just a little food for thought.
Meredith
Thanks everyone for your feedback! Must say that I found the websites very useful!
I also took one PP's advice and looked up each of the names:
Emerson Jade: Industrious; Jewel; precious stone.
Meredith: Guardian of the sea
Rhiannon: Great queen
Avery: Ruler of elves, favor
Alyssa: Sane, rational
Chelsea: Shipping port
Mallory: One who is unlucky
Kira: Bright light, sun
Adelaide: Kind, noble
I also liked the mn suggestions of Claire, Blythe, Cait/Kate and Maren
Parker: Guardian of the forest.
Gregory: Vigilant; watchful.
Gabriel: Man of God, who is my strength.
Caleb: Bold; faithful; dog.
Alistair: Defender of men.
Jasper: A treasurer; colorful stone.
MN suggestions I like: Cole, Owen, Everett and Dylan. Oh, and I definitely like Porter and Griffin to consider... :)
Quite a lot of info here...will have to think about these names. No rush though (EDD Nov 16).
Thanks everyone!!

I'm guessing the site that listed "industrious" as the meaning behind Emerson was listing it as a form of Emily (which does have this meaning), but I'm only aware of the meaning "son of Emery." One of my name books does say Emery can mean "industrious leader," so technically you could get the meaning "son of the industrious leader." Just in case you wanted more background. ;)
My favorites for you are still Avery and Rhiannon. I love Adelaide, but it just seems a bit too feminine next to big sister Emerson (although I can see Emerson and Addie, so I definitely wouldn't write it off entirely). ;) HTH!
