My cousin has 3 boys:

Graydon Sherman IV (clearly a family name)

Zebediah Jerry

Indigo Nathaniel

Took a while for them to grow on me, but they sure do fit those boys!

Recent generations are very common names, but if I go back a couple generations, we have...

Volney (my dad's step-dad) -- pronounced vohl-nee
Arvid (my grandpa's brother) -- nn Arvie
Hilda (my grandpa's sister)

Interestingly enough, my grandpa's parents came from Finland, and their 4 kids were named Hilda, Walter, John, and Arvid. My grandpa is John (no middle name), and I always wondered why his parents picked such a common name next to the other choices.

KAISER (-no NN-)in my family, we do what few do...we are all called WHAT WE ARE NAMED (this goes back for generations, we are a very large irish catholic family)!!!
his dad (my cousin)is a HUGE Seinfeld fan so we all thought his wife letting him choose the name was a very bad idea. I bet $50 that he would name the child Kramer, I lost!!

Well considering I come from a Greek background... a lot of the names that parents choose for their children's' names are based upon the child's grandmother or grandfather from either side.

But I'm sure most of ya'll you find these weird or interesting:

Archimedes
Aphrodite
Elektra
Themistocles

etc etc

Arvil and Arvella (siblings)
Wendelin (two of these)

Dortha
Dorcas Drake
Sarilda Caroline
Thurza Ellen
Isom David

and not to be outdone, DH's family has an Elmo, and not that long ago. :)

Well, we have a Bus and a Stub in the older generation, but both are nicknames that they use as their everyday name. Nothing close to their actual names and I have no idea where they originated.

The more unusual given names are:

Etha (called an'Etha - short for "aunt Etha")
Alda (called an'Alda - same as above)

AJ, enjoying life with C.

Toy, Crittie, and Key are all five or more generations back, but my grandmother Manilla and grandfather Ardyth (he hated that) probably win for recent history. Though Merlin and Lassie probably get some points, too...

edited to add Great-uncle Major, though he changed his name to Mackinlay, after the major he was named after in the first place.

My grandmother's name is Lavada. I can't find it anywhere. Her birth certificate it is Evater. I think her name was suppose to be Evada b/c her mom's name was Evie. I can't find Evada or Lavada anywhere. Has anyone else ever heard of these?
