Marnell (my mom) Noreen (her sister) Thusnelda (their mom) Valerius (their dad) Rellis (their dad's brother) DF has some odd ones too, but i can't remember. The only one i remember is Regina, which isn't an unusual name, but the woman pronounces it with a long i.
Well, I don't know how unusual they are, but here are ones that are not terribly common:
Olive Minerva (my gr. g'ma) Palmer (gr. g'pa - married to Olive) Millard (another gr.g'pa) Harlan Russell (pat. g'pa, son of Millard) Marilyn Lucille (pat. g'ma, married to Harlan, daughter of Olive/Palmer) Eldora (sister to Marilyn) Virgil (brother to Harlan) Luka aka Louis (my gr. g'pa, who immigrated from Serbia at age 15) Alroy Waldemar (dh's mat. g'father)
Amy :-) dw to Jerry; CPST and HS Mom to 4 great kids and hopefully more
My grandmother's name is Arcadia Runette. She goes by Runette. Her mother was named Effie Pearl. Most of her siblings' names were pretty common for the late 20s early 30s (Hazel, Horace, Fred, etc).
Well, my grandfather's mother had 2 brothers that she just adored, Lester and Victor. So, when she had her 3 boys she named them Lester, Victor and (my grandfather) L.V. My parents also named by brother this. Everyone wants to know what it stands for, but it is really his first name, and pronounced like the letters.
I also have a (4 greats) grandmother from Germany named Webke. Not too sure how to pronounce it.
I have a son named Moise (Mo-ees)Richardson. He's adopted from Haiti, so the name is french/creole. Derived from Moses. His birth name was actually Richardson Moise. We flip flopped it and added our last name. I love the name and get many compliments, especially from african american families. So glad we didn't give an Americanized name.
Our newly adopted daughter is Jalayne (ja-Lane) Grace.
Lassie? As a given name for a human? That's really too bad. :)
My grandparents (all four of them) immigrated from Holland, so there's lots of names in the family tree that I can't even pronounce. My mom's sisters are Rita, Jane, and Margaret - somehow she got Gertrude, and no middle name either. She's threatened me with terrible things if I ever dare name a baby after her!
