My Mum's friend at work had a baby boy yesterday and named him Galip..I looked it up out of curiousity and it is a Turkish name meaning winner. It's certainly an interesting choice if nothing else.

Are they Turkish?
I was curious how to say it, so I tried BTN but they only have Ghalib ("conqueror" in Arabic ... is one a form of the other??). I have to say I prefer Ghalib, since Galip just reminds me of the word "gallop," especially if it's said similarly.

Hi
no she's Lithuanian.I'm not sure about the Arabic connection. It was pronounced to my mum as Glip but she was informed by another Lithuanian lady so something may have been lost in translation.
