HI all, Haven't posted in a while, been very busy with new house and move. We have our names narrowed down and wanted to hear your thoughts. We're planning on creating #2 soon!

They are: If he's a boy: Julian Scott (Scott is Dh's mn) we may call him Jude and if she's a girl,

Spencer-Margaret. Margaret is a family name on both sides and Dh loves Spencer. She may have a middle name too such as Greene but we may just have her have her full name of Spencer-Margaret. Let me know what you think!

Love Julian Scott. Great name. Lose the hyphen, and I love Spencer Margaret, too. Spencer (nickname Spence) has been a favorite boy name for me for a long time. I never really thought of it as a girl's name, but I don't seem to mind it as much as I do other boy names on girls. Margaret is definitely a favorite. You could call her Spencer Meg!

some day there will be no boys names left because they will all have turned unisex and then into girls names. Spencer should remain a boys name.

and ironically I've always felt that Julian is the most feminine boys name that exists. Jude, too, sounds too much like the girls name Judy.

I love the name Julian, it seems so sophisticated and sexy to me. Jude is a great nn. Julian Scott sounds fantastic.

Margaret is a fave of mine, but I can't wrap my arms around Spencer as a girls name, even with the hyphen. Sorry.

Julian and Spencer could easily be misheard as Julianne and Spencer.

Julian Scott nn Jude is great. Spencer-Margaret, however, is honestly very weird and kind of ugly. It sounds like someone doing role-call, last name first. I'm not a big fan of Spencer on a boy, but its much worse on a girl.

Thanks for the replies. Devon, thanks for your lengthy!!! response, it was very thoughtful. I don't like the way Margaret Spencer sounds - reminds me of a stodgy old lady! Spencer isn't a phone book name, it's actually one of our family surnames - my husband just happened to really like it. The association about not being able to catch a ball too cracks me up - somehow, given our genetic history, I don't think athletics will be a problem LOL!! I really do like hearing the replies though, even if they're not positive. By the way, you're brave to have ALL those kids!!

PS who is Jaclyn Smith?

Good luck and thanks to all who posted!

I figure you would rather have honest feedback, than "fluff" - so here I go.... I REALLY think Julian is very feminine - he will be teased immensely... I think guys have a hard enough time fitting in and being masculine, so don't hinder him anymore... He will hate his name... And Spencer for a girl is REALLY bad... She will be teased terribly. Especially when the other girls have pretty names... Then when she gets older, I guarantee she'll get 'lesbian' jokes or 'hermaphrodite' jokes (someone thats both a boy & a girl) - A good friend of mine is named "Michael" - its a girl... She has had TERRIBLE issues with her name all her life - now she legally changed it to "Michelle."

Spencer is great - for your son... For your daughter - go a little bit more 'girly.'

I like Julian Scott. its a nice name. Not really a manly man name but I think nice and it will grow well. Jules, Jude, Julian -any of them will be fine.

I saw that Spencer is your family name so that changes my opinion of it. Although I agree that I would prefer it as a wonderful nod to your family if your son was named Spencer. Not CRAZY about it for a girl. I DO like Margaret. I can see where you could get an old lady vibe as I had a great Aunt Marge but she was wonderful and I think its a name that grows as well. If you like NN's there are TONS for Margaret. (Maggie, Meg, Molly, etc etc etc). Would you do Margaret with a different MN?

it's funny b/c julian has always seemed very masculine to me. spencer is kind of done as a boys name imho. where do these kids live and where are their parents who make fun of a name like julian? so many kids i know have names like miller, mason, etc which aren't really first names but are really surnames. the julians i know are strong, smart and handsome. the onlt celebrity julian that seems more soft is julian lennon who is a pretty cool dude! what about jude law, he's gorgeous! i'll give this some thought, but like the feedback.
