Well, I guess I'd change the spelling so that she wouldn't spend her life correcting people. Camellia is the proper spelling, and you can't escape the flower reference by merely changing the spelling.

That being said, I really love the name. I'm from the deep South (Alabama), and the name is fairly common here, if not popular (after all, the Camellia is our state flower!). I've always loved the names Cornelia (a friend of my mother's--people call her Neelie), and Cordelia (the good daughter in King Lear). Camellia is similar to those, and to me, just as attractive. Just don't do what some people I know did: name your twin daughters Camellia and Magnolia, and call them Cammie and Maggie! :-(

I agree with the previous poster, not my style, but it is OK, kind of cute.

I DISAGREE with the poster who says to spell it Camellia. regardless of if that's how the flower is technically spelled, it you want it to be pronounced like the name Amelia, but with a C in front, then the second L is unnecessary and could cause people to say Ca-MELL-ee-ah.

I wouldn't think that Ca-MELL-ee-ah is what you want, so the spelling Camelia is better.

possible middles (I wouldn't use a second flower or color). I'd also avoid names that start with a vowel, especially A, since Camelia ends with an A.

Camelia Brianne, Camelia Danielle, Camelia Dawn, Camelia Danae, Camelia Gisele, Camelia Janelle, Camelia Jolene, Camelia Joelle, Camelia Michelle, Camelia Monique, Camelia Maureen, Camelia Nicole, Camelia Noelle, Camelia Paige, Camelia Renee.

good luck
