Name after f-i-l? In this case "Rudy"
| Mon, 02-19-2007 - 4:03pm |
I've liked the name Rudy for a little boy for many years; even before I was of marrying age, lol. When I married a man who's father's name is Rudy, wouldn't you think I'd have used the name by now? (We have three boys already.) Lol. My husband said it's hard for him to think of a little boy named "Rudy" because he thinks of his DAD, not a little child, when he hears the name. What have been some of your experiences in naming a son after your f-i-l? Was your husband against it at first? Did he ever come around?

I think Rudy is cute! If DH doesn't like it as fn, what about using it as the mn?
I have to say I'm a little jealous of you b/c my DH has practically insisted that we name 1st son Joseph David after his dad (named Joe David- but I could NEVER name my kid just Joe). I'd guess that your experience is a little different b/c a lot of men do want to name their sons after themselves or their dads/grandpas.
If you really love it, and especially b/c you did before you even married DH, I'd keep it around and if all else fails use it as mn.
Good luck!

Thanks belle_petite for the siggy!
Looking forward to more replies, but wanted to follow up ...
Fil's full name is Rudolph, and I'm OUT on the Rudolph, don't like any other variation but Rudy. So if we do anything, it would be just Rudy (plus a mn).
Also, we have named two sons after my dh, lol, so dh also likes the idea of naming kids after him! :) The middle name of our first boy includes dh's name at the end of it, and the middle name of our third boy is ____son with the blank being dh's first name. I thought that was fun.
Thanks to you both for your thoughts! Would love to hear more!
