HI yesterdy we found out that we are having a girl. We've had the name Ella picked out for a long time. i love it but I really would be more comfortable using it as a nick name. The name cant be too long however, because her middle name will be Temperance. Also my husband doesn't want any names that sound too foriegn. There are so many ella names that have a spanish backround. I dont know what to do, I might still just end up sticking with Ella because of the long midddle name. What do you guys think?
Thank you in advance,
Sarah

The only one I can think of right now is Eloise. Eloise Temperance? How does that sound to you??

I think Ella is fine as a first name. You should be aware, however, the Ellie is getting to be a very popular nickname for girls. I do think you could go with a longer first name even though you are picking a long middle name. Unless you are going to use both the first and middle name as her name every day, I wouldn't worry about. Middle names that have meaning are nice. When the three names are said or written for formal occasions I'm sure they'll sound fine.

Ella is certainly fine as its own name, but here are some longer names that might lend themselves to the nn Ella:

Isabella
Gabriella
Bella
Eleanor
Elizabeth
Eliza
Elissa
Eliana
Elaine
Elena
Daniella

I agree with another poster that I don't think you have to go with a short name just b/c Temperence is long. Even though Temperence has a lot of letters, it has a short sound, so it doesn't seem like as long of a name (if that makes sense).

Good luck making a decision!

I think Ella is just fine as a name in itself w/out being a nn.

Hi, I also like the name Ella but wanted it for a nickname. I will probably use Arielle or Ariella as the first name. I think Arielle Temperance flows nicely.

I really like the name Marcella. But i also like Ella itself as a fn, however i would advise using a longer mn. Good Luck and a great name!!!

I LOVE Ella. I think its so sweet and girly. Many people will comment that its too "trendy" right now, but its really not nearly as common as so many other names. I like Eloise Temperance and Elena (el-ay-nuh) Temperance.
