Well, Hettie was my husband's great-great grandmother's name, but I don't think I'd use it either! To me, it sounds a bit hick and this is from a hick! Does he have a sentimental attachment to it or he just likes it? If there's no sentimental attachment, I'd try to find something else that he likes better (BTW, Isabella Claire is lovely).

Is there any possibility that he would consent to a girl's name that used the initials JD, rather than just the letters? Perhaps something like Jenna Diane, Jasmine Dorene, Julie Denice, Janice Darlene, June Delisa - anything!

It sounds like you've got plenty of time, so I'd not push too hard, but work on him gently - like water on a rock - maybe you'll eventually, but gradually wear him down.

JD is cute for a nickname. Maybe find a first and middle name that the initials are JD. That way, he feels the tradition is being passed on, and you have alternative names to actually call her/him.

I like Nicholas JD I mean the intial thing isn't my style but if it has special meaning than I say go for it! As for Hettie JD what if instead if using JD for a girl you could come up with two middle names the start for a J and D, for example Isabella Jessica Danielle, ok so thats a bad combo but you get the point.

HTH!
