WDYT? Would you spell it differently for a girl? Such as Londyn?

My opinion on place names is the same as it has been for years. Place names are ok if the place has special meaing to you. If, for example, you are from London or that's where you had your honeymoon then the name is wonderful. If, however, you just like the way that it sounds I don't like it. Your child will spend her whole life answering well meaning people who ask her why her parents named her London. It's pretty lame to say that they had never been there, had no ties to it, etc.

I prefer the traditional spelling. I don't really care for "y"s inserted into names to feminize them.

I don't understand the point of making up a spelling, for any name.

I like it. London is my favorite city in the world - it has great connotaions for me. It is very modern while being an incredibly old city - a modern classic if you will - and the name says the same thing to me.

I am however a traditionalist, and do not like "unique" spellings for names. She'd have to spend her whole life correcting people on how to spell her name, and there have been studies that show that people with 'creative' name spellings are assumed to be less intelligent (IE they can't even spell their own names right).

Hope this helps, and best of luck - I'm finding out the hard way that this baby naming business is TOUGH work !!

I'm not a fan of place names in general. London is OK, barely, but pretty bad with a y.

I love Brooklyn! The place, not the name. I lived there for years and I'd go back in a minute if I could.
