Hello,

I am three months pregnant and we are thinking of baby names for our little one. What do you think about the following names? Which do you prefer? Do you have any better suggestions or middle name suggestions? Our last name is Davis.

Boy Names:
- William (family name) - would go by Liam (too many Bill's and Billy's.)
- Owen
- Saxon
- Finn
- Noah
- Lukas
- Sullivan
- Clinton (family name, use as a middle or first name)

Girls Names:
- Julia (family name)
- Karina
- Elliot (or use this as a middle name)
- Skylar
- Cecily
- Leila
- Anika (or Annika)
(middle name ideas include: Jean (family name), Elliot, Noelle, Ruby)

What's your input?

Thanks!
Tiff

Hi Tiff,

What a great list overall! Here are my thoughts:

Boy Names:
- William: I love Liam!! It's great to have a formal FN with a spunky NN.
- Owen: I really like this, although I'm concerned that it'll be the next Aidan in terms of popularity.
- Saxon: An interesting choice. I actually think it's great (but then I'm a history buff), but I don't think you'll get a favorable response to this one. It could be a distinctive middle name, though.
- Finn: Adorable. I actually like "just" Finn, too, but I think you'll get a bunch of people saying they prefer it as a NN for Finnian, Finley, et al.
- Noah: I'm a bit tired of this one. It's so common, and doesn't have the flair of your other choices.
- Lukas: This is nice, but also perennially popular. Have you considered Luka or Luca? Much more distinctive.
- Sullivan: This is nice, but not my favorite.
- Clinton: A nice middle name, but I don't think I like it as a first name.

Girl Names:
- Julia: This is lovely and very classy.
- Karina: I like it better with a "C." It's not my favorite, though. Have you considered Cara?
- Elliot: I agree that this is a pretty "girly" boy name, but I think it's better off as a middle name. Your other choices are prettier.
- Skylar: This is really NMS and doesn't seem to match the style of your other choices.
- Cecily: Adorable! I love this!
- Leila: A beautiful name. It is in my top five!
- Anika (or Annika): I definitely prefer the Annika spelling. A very classy and beautiful name.

My top three boys' combos:
1. William Lukas (NN Liam, of course)
2. Owen Lukas
3. Finn ? (this needs a 3-syllable MN, I think, that doesn't end in "n" or "m." Everett? Gregory? Theodor? Dominic? Oliver?)

My top three girls' combos:
1. Leila Cecily
2. Annika Ruby
3. Cecily Jean

HTH!

I really like a lot of your choices! Here are my thoughts:

Boy Names:
- William -- Love it, esp. the nn Liam.
- Owen -- I love Owen, but it's SHOOTING up in popularity. It went from #454 to #66 in ten years, and I'm betting that when the numbers come out for last year,

Boy Names:
- William- Liam seems a bit trendy to me, I prefer Will.
- Owen- too trendy
- Saxon- nms
- Finn- love this, although prefer as a nn for Phineas or Finley
- Noah- SO sweet, adore this name
- Lukas- love this, but prefer it spelt Lucas. Lukas looks to harsh
- Sullivan- okay. Would prefer as a mn
- Clinton (family name, use as a middle or first name)- I think of Bill Clinton. nms
FAVES
#1) Noah Sullivan
#2) Lucas William
#3) Finn William
** neither Lucas nor Finn sound good with mn Sullivan, but I do like that as a mn best

Girls Names:
- Julia- beautiful, and so nice that its a family name
- Karina- again, lovely and not very popular
- Elliot- too masculine
- Skylar- too trendy, doesn't sound pretty to me
- Cecily- beautiful
- Leila- nice, but not as pretty as some of the others
- Anika (or Annika)- lovely, very unique
(middle name ideas include: Jean (family name), Elliot, Noelle, Ruby)
FAVES
#1) Karina Noelle
#2) Julia Ruby
#3) Cecily Noelle

Liam Davis - very nice
Owen Davis - also very nice
Saxon Davis - the "x" looks trendy and odd. Unless this is a family name, skip it
Finn Davis - Finn is a little "cute" for a grown man
Noah Davis - fine
Lukas Davis - much prefer Luke, but this is OK
Sullivan Davis - sounds a bit like a law firm. Unless Sullivan is a family name, it's trendiness at its worst
Clinton Davis - OK

Julia Davis - very nice
Karina Davis - fine
Elliot - a lot of people are using this so they can "back into" the nn Ellie. Unless it's a family name, it's too trendy
Skylar Davis - nms, but OK
Cecily Davis - nice
Leila Davis - fine
Anika Davis - fine

Top picks: Liam and Julia

Hi there, Tiff. Nice list! Here are my thoughts:

Boy Names:

- William (family name) - would go by Liam (too many Bill's and Billy's.)-I just love William & Liam. Excellent choice.

- Owen-That's also quite handsome. It's sort of common, but not too bad.

- Saxon-I don't know about this one. Something about the S & X so close to each other might lead to teasing potential, you know? It also doesn't flow that well w/the S in Davis.

- Finn-I love this one.

- Noah-That's not bad. It's not my personal favourite, but it's fine.

- Lukas-I love this (well, Lucas), but LucaS DaviS isn't that nice of a combination. I see little Lucas' being born all the time too.

- Sullivan-Oh, now that is cool & refreshing.

- Clinton (family name, use as a middle or first name)-Yeah, I think that you better stick w/mn here. I like it (I liked Bill Clinton too!), but some people didn't, you know?

My personal favourites are William & Finn, but Sullivan is really neat too.

Girls Names:

- Julia (family name)-I just love it.

- Karina-Oh, that's different & simply lovely.

- Elliot (or use this as a middle name)-That's completly masculine.

- Skylar-Eh, that's awfully trendy. I like Schuylar for a boy, but not so much for a girl, & especially w/that spelling.

- Cecily-Aw, that's sweet.

- Leila-Very pretty.

- Anika (or Annika)-I like this a lot w/the two Ns.
(middle name ideas include: Jean (family name), Elliot, Noelle, Ruby)

Julia is my personal favourite, & Julia Ruby Davis is perfect. If popularity bothers you though, you might want to go w/something else. Karina or Annika would be fabulous. Karina Elliot is fine, as long as it's in the mn spot. Annika Ruby is great. I like Cecily a lot, but not w/Davis.

Hope this helps, & keep us posted!

Really great name list!!

Boy Names:
- William - certainly a top contender - Liam Davis sounds GREAT! as does
William Saxon Davis!!
- Owen - ok
- Saxon- I would reserve this for a mn.
- Finn - very fun, and charming.
- Noah - I have liked this name for years, but it has become REALLY popular.
- Lukas Davis- I guess I am the only one who has a problem with the repetitive ending?? (sort of rhymes?)
- Sullivan - In my mind this lends itself to the nn Sully ( as in Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, lol.) but Sully means to mar, defile or soil which ruins it for me. Also Sullivan Davis is one of those names that when people see it, they will wonder whether it has been listed as last name first- Sullivan Davis or Davis Sullivan?? My DD had a coach that was Joseph David/ or David Joseph, I never did quite figure it out.
- Clinton Davis sounds very sophisticated to me, though you run into the same issue with the last name/ first name. No problems with the nn Clint though.

Girls Names:
- Julia Davis - Really pretty !!, Though the name Julia has become very popular where I live.
- Karina I love this as a mn.. Would you use a nn. if you used it as a fn? (Kari?, Kara?)
- Elliot- too masculine for a pretty little girl, imo.
- Skylar- pretty, but trendy
- Cecily Davis- another winner, sounds like a movie star. But it needs a short mn. imo.
Cecily Ann Davis, for example.
- Leila Karina Davis - Leah Karina Davis??
- Anika (or Annika)- pronounced ann-i-ka or ann-ee-ka??

Overall I think William Saxon Davis and Julia Skylar Davis.
Good Luck to you.
