name for third girl

Hi ...this is my first time posting here.
We are expecting our third daughter in May, and we are stumped for a name. Looking for some advice!!
Our first two daughters are named Grace (we named her before it had become SO popular), and Ruby.

So far the names we like best are
Violet
Cora
Lily
Katy
Stella
Emmy

What do you think???
We would like it to match the other two girls name, so preferably something old-fashioned.
Any other suggestions are appreciated.
Do you think that Cora matches the other two?
Thank you!

With sisters Grace and Ruby...

Violet - Love the name, although since Grace and Ruby are also 'word' names, I would probably avoid another so its not too cutesy
Cora- LOVE it! So pretty, feminine, and classy. Gorgeous
Lily- see Violet, and also this is WAY too popular, rising quickly!
Katy- Too nicknamey, too common
Stella- Love it! Very nice and uncommon. My second fave after Cora
Emmy- too cutesy. This is a nn, not a full name

Cora and Stella are both beautiful choices.

I like either Cora or Stella the best with your other children's names =)

Hi there. Congrats on #3! Here are my thoughts on your list:

Violet-I love this, & it fits in perfectly.

Cora-This is nice. It fits in quite well w/Grace & Ruby too.

Lily-I love Lily, but it's ghastly popular.

Katy-Cute, but would certainly prefer it as a nn. Katherine nn Katy is cute. Kathleen is another option.

Stella-Ah, gorgeous.

Emmy-This is nms, but if you must use it then it'd be best as a nn too. Perhaps Emilia or Emmeline nn Emmy?

Here are some more suggestions:

Anna

Ada

Alice

Amelia

Audrey

Bess

Bette

Claire

Clara

Dora

Daisy

Ella, even though this is also rather common. It seemed like a great fit.

Evelyn/Evie

Jane

Josie...maybe as a nn for something like Josephine.

Katherine nn Kitty...that's more interesting than Katy, imo.

Lucy

Lila

May/Maisie

Matilda

Molly

Nora

Pearl

Sylvia/Sylvie

Tess(a)

Hope this helps!

With Grace & Ruby ...

I like Clara better than Cora. Stella would be lovely. Some other ideas from inside my head: Phoebe, Ellen, Tess, Sophie, Hanna, and Annie.

Cora is my fav by far from your list. 2nd choice would be Violet. How about Cecelia or Celia?

Cora and Stella work wonderfully with your other girls' names. They're my favorites of your list by far. ;)

I think it's a great idea to keep the names in the same style without using anything overly-similar. For example, Lily, Katy and Emmy would all be out for me because they're all two-syllable names ending in the same sound as Ruby (which is a great name, btw ). I also wouldn't use Katy or Emmy because, being generally used as nns rather than formal names, it makes it seem like you felt the need to shorten them to make them "match" even more, somehow. Hopefully you know what I mean.

I also love Violet, but wouldn't use it with Ruby since both can be considered color names. Some other flower names that don't have that same association (or at least not one as strong) might work wonderfully, however.

Flora -- this seems a perfect compliment to Grace and Ruby, and since it simply means flower you don't have the same color problem. I actually love this for you.

Lore -- also means flower

Dahlia

Iris or Ivy -- these seem to be the right style, but Iris and Grace both have S sound endings and Ivy and Ruby obviously end similarly as well. Still, they might give you some other ideas so I'll leave them. ;)

Viola -- means Violet, but most won't have the same color association.

You may or may not be aware, but in 1911, the year I believe Ruby was most popular (at number 22), Grace was just below it at 23! It would seem another name with a similar level of popularity that year might appeal, so here are some from that particular year ...

Irene -- number 21, just above Ruby and Grace. I would use the ee-RE-nu pronunciation myself, but the more-common IE-reen is fine too.

Anna/Anne -- technically, Annie was number 24, just after Grace, but I'd use Anne or Anna (Anna was in the top ten that year, btw, and Anne was #64). More formal, and gives her more options as she ages.

Helen

Evelyn, Eleanor or Ellen -- Eve/Evie and Elle/Ellie names are hot right now (though I'd personally use Nora or Nell with Eleanor -- and Nell for Ellen, for that matter -- to avoid the Ellie trend)

Edith -- as are E names in general, though you don't have to worry about more obscure ones becomming overly-common or trendy any time soon

Alice, Agnes or Beatrice -- all end similarly to Grace, but the fact that they contain more syllables helps a bit

Clara -- I know this has been mentioned already, but I have to agree it's a wonderful option. It was number 33 in 1911, so not too far off from Ruby and Grace. ;)

Mabel

Ida or Ada -- short and sweet

Viola -- already mentioned with the floral names, but thought it was worth pointing out that Viola was also in the top 50 that year, at 47

Pearl -- this was actually my first thought for something old-fashioned, sweet and simple like Grace and Ruby, though the stone connection might bother me slightly. You could also use Perla to avoid that a bit ... Grace, Ruby and Perla would be lovely. ;)

Opal -- see comments for Pearl

Jane -- this was my second thought -- Grace, Ruby and Jane -- though some of the others on this list appeal to me a bit more. It'd make a great mn, however. ;)

Alma

Vera

Lena

Vivian

Charlotte -- visually a bit longer than Grace and Ruby, though only two syllables, and VERY close to Ruby's popularity at the moment (in 2005, the two were numbers 135 and 132 on the SSA list )

It also might interest you to know that Stella and Cora were also in the top 100 that same year, at #72 and 91 respectively. So yes, I think either matches quite nicely. ;)

I think that Cora is GREAT with your daughters' names (both lovely by the way).

My second pick would be Stella, my third Violet.
