Named after Daddy

In my family, it is tradition that the first girl is named after her father, thus my first name. Career wise it helped me because a lot of calls came thinking I was a male at times, and I turned out to be a female. I would like to carry it on with my own daughter (when she gets here), but am a bit perplexed at how I could pull it off. My husband's name is Willie Ryan, and I dislike Wilhemena or anything that takes off the Willie, so my focus is on the Ryan... However, should I change the way it is spelled or should I keep it is as Ryan... Or do you know of a pretty take off of either, we have the middle name, Genelle for one of my fav aunts. Your advice is appreciated!

What about Ryann Genelle? Pronounced 'rye-ann'.

I think Willow is an excellent choice. I've always liked that name.

The only names I can think of are Willow, Willa (both of which are lovely, BTW)
and Ryan may work as Ryanne.

Hey! I love the tradition you are carrying on, but as far as Ryan for a girl, i really like it spelled Rian. Good luck!!

My daughter's second grade teacher was named Ryann (pronounced RY-an), which I had never considered as a girl's/woman's name. She was terrific, so I would champion this as a choice, and I'm not one to approve of unisex names. Just remember-- you're giving a name to a WOMAN, not just to a baby!

I love the name Ryan for a girl with that orinial spelling. It's sassy and I prefer that to other spellings. As someone with a different name, it has always helped that it is spelled phonetically....if you change the spelling, she'll spend her whole life correcting other people. Who cares if folks who just see her name may think she's a boy? That matters, why? When they meet her in person, that'll be the end of that and they'll never forget her name. Good luck, Astrid
