Namers Remorse

Hello all :) As my tile says I think I may have namers remorse. My 1 year old son's name is Aidan Stefan James (Last name). I LOVE the name and the spelling. I love the fact that it is Irish and where I live in Canada has not become too popular yet. But yet is the key word. I am afraid that it will and he will be one of many Aidan's in his class. I have an Emily and she is referred to as Emily Mur. as there is 2 other Emily's with M last names in her class. As well, I am concerned about the first 2 names ending with the "n" sound and not flowing well. I also don't know if it fits with the flow of my other children's names. That is the thing.....there is nothing common to bring the sibling names together.

I have an Emily Rose Brigitte - very common first 2 names and a weird spelling of the 2nd middle name.

Justin Patrick - pretty plain

Kyle Joseph - again pretty plain and for some reason the 1st 2 boys only got 1 middle name

Gillian Patricia Louise - a variation of Jillian the more common spelling.....tried to spice it up, plus I don't care for the nn Jill, no offense to any Jills....just not my style.

and then there is Aidan Stefan James. His name is bit trendier. I have to say that "I love all my children's names" I spend a great deal of time picking them out and they have a lot of meaning. Whether they are spelled in a family tradition or another member's name, they all were not chosen lightly.

I just thought I would put this all out there for someone to comment on and see what feedback I would get. I have no plan on changing his name.....just curious. Thanks in advance.

i wouldn't worry at all! with the two 'n' sounds, anything will grow on you after time, and a while from now you won't be able to imagine your son named anything else!

my mom, without thinking at all, named my sister and i both with our first names ending with the same sound our second starts with so they run together!

aspen nicole and ashley elizabeth (me) we have to make a definite pause between names to have people be sure where the name break is! it's never been a huge deal and we're just used to it now that we're adults. i almost solely go by 'ash' anyway so i hardly think about it.

I think the name is beautiful! I'm a teacher and I have kids with the same name each year. I don't think it affects them much and who cares? If you love the name, then go for it. My son's name is Alexander. I know it seems like everyone has this name but I don't care because I love it!

Hi: you should not have remorse at all! That is a beautiful name, both first and middle. I thought naming my child was the hardest decision I'd ever made and ultimately I punted and let my husband name her because I couldn't decide. I understand your concern about having other children with his name, but it seems that no matter what name you chose, you run into that somewhere. I think you did a great job chosing his name!

Someone once made a great point to me about "popular" baby names: sure, there may be more than one Aidan or Ava in a classroom in three or four years, but someday our kids are going to be out in the real world with people of all ages, and the name popularity issue will disappear. (You'd think I'd have noticed this on my own. My name was one of the most trendy names of 1970, but as an adult, I rarely ever run into another Tammy.)

My firstborn is named Sam (short for Samuel). Baby-on-the-way is named Will (short for William). Someone told me these names are becoming popular, but I really don't care. Like you, I think names are incredibly important, and I have my reasons -- both familial and literary -- for loving these ones. If other parents love them, too, well then that just shows their excellent judgment. :)
