I need boy and girl names that start with CHAR. Boyfriend's name is Charles. We need names that don't sound ghetto and made up.

for girls i immediately thought of Charlotte and Charlene. Another girl's name (although not quite CHAR but close....Chandra. for boys it was a little harder, i thought of Charlton right away (but am reminded of charlton heston!)

I love Charlotte for a girl. It is beautiful, classy, and not "ghetto" in any way.

Just a thought, but how about using Charles for a boy, but using a different nn? If you boyfriend goes by Charles or Charlie, how about Chaz? I love that, it is so different.

The only two I can recommned are Charlotte and Charles, all the others sound trashy to me. These two are classic.

Thx! We already have a Charles (CJ). I was thinking Charlee for a girl, but still stuck for a boy. I thought maybe Chaz was close enough.

Besides those mentioned, there's also Charlize (like Ms. Theron) and Chara (pronounced SHAR-a).

However, if I understand correctly that you already have a son named Charles, I'd strongly caution you against naming yet another child after your bf. There are siblings at my dd's school named Bobbi-Jo, Robert Jr. and Ashley, and to be quite honest, it's very comical. At least Ashley's not Roberta or something, but you get the idea. Naming one child after the father is fine, but naming them George Jr., Georgia, Georgette and Georgina, for example, is overkill. At best, it comes across as very low-class or egotistical. I wouldn't do it.

If you just like the sound of a Char- name (especially since Charles goes by C.J.), I'd go with one that doesn't actually sound exactly like or have any relation to Charles. Chara, mentioned above, means happiness. And Chandra, which I believe has already been suggested, means moon. If it helps, I've known girls with both these names, and Chandra went by the nn Chanie (pron. SHAYN-ee).

One of my best friends is named Charis (prn. like Karis). It's a beautiful name, and not an obvious use of Charles until you see it written.
