I am having a bi-racial baby, and am wondering if anyone can suggest names for me.... I have a feeling that I am having a girl, but I could be wrong, so I need names for both boys and girls.... I want a name that is interesting and pretty. My name is Jessica, so I want to stay away from super-popular names. Any ideas? Please, I need all the help I can get.

I'm not sure how a bi-racial name is different but I'll name the bi-racial kids have known.

I guess its not that I think naming a bi-racial baby is different, I just want a name that reflects a little extra "culture". Do you know what I mean? My boyfriend wants a name like Lashawna or Lakisha, I don't. He's afraid that if its left up to me, the baby will end up with a name like Tiffany or Jennifer, what he considers "white" names.

Please don't be offended, anyone....

I know what you mean, but I think that more and more names carry less of a racial identity than they used to. I know at least one African-American Brittany and one AA Tiffany, so those aren't necessarily obvious "white trash" names even though I do understand what you're both saying.

Following the lead of the pp, here are some names of black/biracial children in my area...

Girls...
Bree (not sure if it's short for anything)
Natassia
Zoe
Laila
Kiara
Michelle

Boys...
Dominic
Victor (V.J.)
Michael (Mike)
Manuel (Manny)
Anthony
Teegan
Matthew
Nicholas (Nick)

Hope that helps!

Here are some bi-racial children/adults I have known:

Aylea
Renata
Savannah
Hannah
Benjamin
Tyrone (all the above are related)
Eliana
Myles

Also, at least in my area, Irish-type names seem to be popular with bi-racial/AA families (and I've noticed this trend in the sports/entertainment industry as well). Some I've known or have heard:

Donovan
Damon
Keenan
Shaun
Seonaid/Sinead
Shanna
Shaynee
Shevaun/Siobhan
Sibeal
Tamsin
Trea
Denzel
Kendrick
Kieran
Kynon

Someone on the other baby names board is adopting a bi-racial baby and are considering Talitha, which I love. They are also considering Renata, although I'm not so fond of that one. Maybe Sage or Layla? As for a boy, I LOVE Malachi.
