Names "Ike" can be a nickname for?

I'm due in about 8 weeks with our sixth baby. Dh and I both like Ike for a boy's name (which we've been told this baby is), and it goes well with the other kiddo's names. But I'm not really big on the name Isaac -- can Ike stand alone, in your opinion? (We're considering Neilson for a middle name). I love the name Jack, too, and IT can stand alone -- how come to me it seems like Ike needs to be a nickname for something else? And what else can it be a nickname for? Any ideas would be appreciated!

The only ones that I can think of off the top of my head are Mike, Michael, or Ryker.

It might be a stretch, but I think Ike could be a nn for Isaiah, Ezekiel, or something with the initials I.K. -- maybe Ian Kellen or Isaiah Kristopher?

Good luck making a decision!

I think Isaac is fabulous! I love Isaac Nielson and Ike is a great nn, although I don't think it can stand alone. Isaac is such a graet name though.

I'm pretty good with Isaac, I just wish I loved it, KWIM? But we both really like Ike; it fits with the other kids' names, as well as our last name ... so unless out of the blue we find something else that works with Ike, that's what it will be. Isaac means "laughter" or "made to laugh" or "he laughs" or something like that -- and I tell you, dh and I had a super silly giggle breakout after setting in motion the conception, so it seems appropriate. Also, in the Bible, Isaac was the long-awaited promise ... and right after this baby was conceived, and as dh and I were believing God's promise to take care of us and deliver us from affliction, dh and I were set free from a situation that we'd been in for 18 months. So the name DOES seem appropriate!

Dh's name is Neil, that's where we came up with Neilson.

Thanks to everyone for your input!

Ike has occasionally been known as a nickname for Dwight - it was a nickname of the late president Dwight Eisenhower

we even have an Eisenhower Blvd in our area (a major interchange of several interestates) and when the traffic report is on the radio they often refer to it as "the Ike"

I then knew two Dwight's - one now in his early 30s, the other probably in his 50s, who both went by the nickname Ike some of the time.

I like the name Dwight, it's a nice name, you don't hear it a lot, was never overly popular in any era.

good luck.
