I love Ellis for a boy. Good one.

Is Heber really Hebert, the French version of Herbert?

Britton I love for a girl - sad to hear it on a boy. :(

Lachlan I LOVE for a boy - sad to hear it on a girl. :(

Marjorie and Violet are lovely.

Ivy is my dog's name. :)

AJ, enjoying life with C.

Boys:

Crew and Kreed (Creed)- No, no, no! What are the parents thinking??? I know some parents like "word meaning" names, but come on! Crew? Kreed (Creed)?

Ellis - nice, sounds modern and classic at the same time

Britton - ok. Makes me think of the composer Benjamin Britten - a good association.

Heber - not a fan. It looks like the final t was left off

Briggs - taking the last-name-first trend a little too far; some last names should not be first

Simon - absolutely lovely!

Colson, Lamont, Stillman - not my style, but ok. On the right person, they could grow on me.

Girls:

Lacklan - not on a girl

Violet - very pretty

Eliette - enough with giving boys' names to girls! A changed spelling doesn't make it feminine. That said, this is better than those parents who add random Ys to boys' names and think they're being original.

Sophie Pricilla ( After both grandmothers)- Really, really pretty; I like both names

Ivy - Not my style, but I can see its appeal

Marjorie - I love this one; I'm waiting for it to come back

Abella - unexpected but pretty. People might assume Arabella at first, but this could be really sweet.

I'm in the minority that likes Briggs, I knew a Briggs in elementary school and it left a good impression on me. Lacklan is awful! Lachlan on a girl would be bad enough but Lacklan makes me want to say LACK-lan rather than LOCK-len.

I posted these names because I was shocked with most of them but found a few very nice and refreshing.

Well, this post had my name on it, literally, so I decided to respond : )

Inez Lapreal - family name
Hmm, I've never met an Inez and I'm not sure how to pronounce it. It's ok.

Claudia
I like Claudia a lot. It's a very strong but pretty girls' name.

Lucretia
Never liked this personally... it reminds me of the word secrete/secretion (ew!) and Lucretia Borgia. Lucinda is an alternative.

Althea
Ok, but it's a little hard to say... I dont really like the "Al" sound. I prefer Anthea.

Augusta - family name
nms personally (sounds a little too haughty/blustery), but not a bad name.

Candace Blanche - family name
Candace is not bad, but I'd try to avoid the nn Candy! Blanche doesn't have a pretty sound to me.

Celia - Just Celia , it seems that it should be short for Cecilia.
I like Celia (although it sort of unpleasantly reminds me of cilia, the little hairs inside your nose... haha i'm horrible with these word connections...)

Geneva - I love this one. Doesn't seem to be catching on again though.
I like this one a lot! Pretty and strong and a bit exotic. I knew a Geneva in college: she was from Maine, she had dark brown hair, and studied the classics. She was womanly but had a girlish sweetness about her.

Eileen - okay for MN
Eileen is nice.

Francine - nn Francie
I just don't like this one... the "fraaan" sound turns me off.

Kelsey - not old but I like this one.
Not bad, but does sound very modern and will get lumped in with the rest of the trendy Kaylees and such. nms.

Laurel
I like this a lot : ) (I am soo tired of Lauren!) I can't use it with our ln, though : (

Louisa - This one is very sweet IMO.
I like this a lot : ) My only problem is that I want to say it with a "-sa" at the end, but I think general opinion is that it should end with a "-za."

Nadine
nms... sounds dated to me.

Serena
Pretty.

Sylvia
Love this!

Valorie - One of my best friends growing up. I also went to school with a boy named Val. Not a nn, just Val.

Ok, here goes... I far prefer Valerie (my name). It's the most common spelling, and I think any of the alternative spellings (Valorie, Valery, Vallerie, etc) are just setting you up for trouble and annoyance. 90% of the time when someone is writing down my name and I say "Valerie," they either just write "Valerie" or they ask, "spelled with an -ie?"
Valorie also looks very weird to me (like va-LOR-y), but I'm sure part of that is just that I'm used to seeing my own name. Now, Valerie, I think, is a nice name : ) I find it a little difficult to picture on a baby, but that's probably just me.
I'm actually named after my grandfather, Valerius nn Val. Thus why I don't go by the nn Val. I was never called Val at home, and I just don't like the sound of it. I just go by Valerie : )

Best of luck!
valerie ; )
