Names thatseem "fair" or "dark" to you?

I read this on another naming board I go to and thought I'd toss the idea around here.

Are there certain names that you associate with a certain hair colors/complexions? For me, there are names that I liked when I was a teenager or before I got married but now that I am married, those names don't fit and I don't want to use them. For example, I loved the name Meredith, but our baby will be dark haired and dark complexion, so I can't see our baby being a "Meredith."

So my question is, are there names (boy or girl) that you typically picture or associate with being blond, brunette, redhead, dark/olive skin and/or fair skin?

I hope I'm making sense (and I hope everyone understand the intent and tone of this post. I'm not meaning to offend, I just wanted to know if there are names that people picture as being of a certain type) :)

I definitely know what you mean, but I also think it might be different for every person. Although I do agree with you on Meridith. I always pictured a medium skinned toned woman with medium colored hair (light reddish brown). I've always seen Natalie's being with dark hair and an olive skin tone and Elise's with fair hair and a fair skin tone. But some people may see it different, I dont know. There is also another post on here that you put a name with something you think they are. Example: Paige-Popular, Britney-Beauty Queen, Jamie-Athletic, Beth-Smart and so on. But everyone pictures it differently.

I definitely agree with you (although, of course, I can't think of many offhand, although I know I've come across tons!). The ones traditionally associated with a certain ethnicity do come to mind, such as a red-headed Colleen or dark-haired Giavanna (my very-Italian cousin's daughter ... she goes by Gigi and it fits her perfectly, but wouldn't work for my light-complexioned/-haired, half-Irish girls). :) Incidentally, my youngest daughter Devanie's name actually means dark-haired poet, but since usually no one is familiar with the meaning I don't think it has that association for her. Now I'm going to be thinking of these all night lol.

I have always associated the name Emma with a blonde girl. I also associate the male name, Reed, with a red head.

It's SOOO funny that you posted this question: I was just stressing to my dh about this very thing a week or two ago, and he just rolled his eyes. Our little one will pretty definitely have fair hair, but the eyes could go either way. So I was thinking about our top two girls' names, and it seems to me that a Romilly should have brown eyes but a Cecily should definitely have light eyes. Couldn't possibly tell you why! Then again, the more I've thought about it, the more I think that when someone's coloring isn't what you expect to go with their name, it always makes the name 'pop' a bit more, in a good way. Like a little blond Dominic, for example :)
