Names that were once popular

Hi. I was wondering if anyone could give ideas/suggestions of names (both boys & girls) that were once popular but not so much anymore. Maybe names that were popular 20 years ago?

And I'm just naming off the top of my head but:

Some girl names I thought of are Anna, Stephanie, Melissa, Nicole, Heather, Rebecca, Erin, etc.
Some boy names I thought of are Robert, Jason, Justin, Steven, Jonathan, Jeffrey, Mark, etc.

Any ideas/suggestions would be very much appreciated! Thank you.

My name is Jessica, and trust me, that was the number one name for girls for a long time. I went to a school that only had about 400 kids, and there was always at least one other Jessica in the class. I like the name though, don't get me wrong.

Let's see.... Sarah was big, Jennifer, Amber, Leah.....

For boys: Justin, Michael, Adam, Chris....

Nothing too original....but that's what I remember as huge.

Just an FYI, if you're looking to revive something (or avoid it), you can do searches on the Social Security Administration baby names site for lists of popular names for a particular year or decade. It's kind of fun to see that the names most popular in the early 1900s are coming back, to peruse the ones from the 1950s and see how many girls there were named things like Peaches, and so on...

The most common names in my school were:

Rebecca (me included - there was two in my class and about 5 in the year above, all in a small school!), Emma, Hannah, Lisa, Vicky, Catherine, Gemma, Samantha

Gareth, Michael, Stephen/Steven, Lee, Christopher, David, Craig, Jamie

Actually some of these names are still quite popular - I know little Rebeccas, Emmas, Hannahs, Michaels and Jamies!

This is going back more than 20 years, but Nancy was VERY popular in the mid 20th century, and now it is one of the least common names. Being my mother's name it is one of the middle names we have chosen for our daughter... but that took a lot of convincing for DH. Sylvia, Gertrude, Ethel, Beverly... as well. Boys names are harder because they take longer to go out of fashion. But actually Beverly was originally a boys name - so there you go.

My husband and I had the toughest time deciding on our daughters name and finally landed on Miranda which I LOVE.

We're pregnant again and it's too soon to know what we're having but we're building up the girl's list again. I like Classic names as well. Here's what we have so far.

Good Luck.
