I LOVE the name Claire, but ironically my last name is Italian and means the same thing as Claire! Too bad, because it truely is a classic, beautiful name!

Hmmm ...

Love, but not likely to use:

Killian (people always assume it's "after the beer," LOL but if my oldest wasn't already Kaitlyn - too similar IMO - I could be persuaded to use the spellings Kilian or Cilian ... but that doesn't really matter since we're on our third GIRL! LOL)

Avalon - love the name and the legend, but not the Toyota hehe
Addiena - like it in theory, but it's more of a positive personal association and I'm aware not many are fond of it LOL

Love, but were nixed for various reasons (often dh's LOL):

Genevieve
Isla (but that one's not totally vetoed, just too close in sound to the nn Aila this time around)
Anwen
Aisling/Aislinn
Aouregwenn - not dh's fault ... just too hard for most to pronounce
Aoife
Liadan
An(n)ora - although Nora(h) itself will still be on future lists
Emaline - various spellings, but a bit too "trendy" right now for me as well
Aine - reminds dh of Enya
Briallen
Kerenza - not a good "fit" for us, but I still like it for someone else
Carys - reminded dh of "carrots" ROFL
Charlotte
Branwen
Adeline
Avelaine
Sapphira
Imogen - love it! DH said it reminded him of an old lady he knew named Imogene and he couldn't say it without laughing (I didn't ask why LOL)
Ava - too popular for us (this, coming from the parents of a Kaitlyn and an Abigail ... but dh just couldn't part with Abigail and since it's been on the list for years it just kind of took, KWIM? LOL)

Dashiel - the lone boy name on this list LOL ... mostly just because I loved the nn Dash and thought it was different, yet recognizable, being so close to the common name Daniel and all

Love, but are too close to names already in use:

Delanie - only one letter off of Devanie, even though the stress and sound is different
Meredith - always liked it, but it's my cousin's name (and they already think we named Devanie after her sister, Devin LOL)
Fiona - now that Fiora's officially a "family" name ... or will be in a few weeks LOL

Just don't flow with our ln:

Cora
Nora(h) - but much better than Cora, and could work in the mn slot someday
Maura/Moira, etc.

Oran
Corbin

I know there are tons more but that's all I can think of offhand. :)

~Kelli

I always wanted to name a son Beau. As I got older I decided that I would name a son Robert and call him Bo. Of course I married a man with a horrid Uncle Robert (MIL's brother). He and MIL were estranged and he didn't even come to MIL's funeral. There is no way I could have named my son Robert.

I pushed and pushed for my first 2 kids to be Sophia if they were girls. I even used the excuse that it would be a nice tribute to DH's grandma, Sophie, but he wouldn't budge and I always lost out because it reminded him of... what else?... an old lady like his grandma! DH always wanted Amanda (nn Mandy) for a girl which I did not like and luckily Mandy does NOT flow well with our last name. Now that we're actually having a girl we're finding her much harder to name than the 2 boys.

I have always loved the name Elise.

However, my last name rhymes with Peace. So imagine Elise Peace.............not gonna happen. :(

I have a bunch of names that fit this category. Here are a few I can think of off the top of my head:

Girls:

Piper
Molly
Nina
-- this one is for family reasons. I have an Aunt Nina (but she pron. it NINE-uh, which I HATE) with whom I have a very rocky relationship. I can't imagine giving my child her name, especially because she's tell everyone she was named after her.
Grace -- this name is a family name for that same aunt, it's tradition for all the girls in her family to have Grace as a mn. She'd either (a) get snarky that I stole her family name or (b) claim that I named the baby after her. Either way, not worth it.
Hadley
Francesca

Here's my list, they may be a little strange, but their in my mind and i cant help it!

Lavinia- i know this one is bad, i've been told it by tons of people (my family burst out laughing when i told them that i liked it) its from a little princess and i thought Nia could be a cute nn. To me it sounds unique and classic

Athena-i loved this name when i was younger, its grown out of me a bit, but i still like the associated with a strong intelligent female. When DF heard this tho, he said he pictured a snobby and stuck up girl.

Hannah- Loved the name, until i heard how popular its become. now i cant get into it again.

Nissa- it's our cat's name, but i think it would just be great on a little girl

Ayelet- This is my ultimate favorite name. it still is and i wont give up on it! (pronounced Eye-ell-let) i think its beautiful, but i've spent my whole life with a last name no one can pronounce and i wont give my child the same thing. Plus Ayelet Carr would just be a mix of cultures :) When i have a child however, this will either be her middle or hebrew name, and i'll use it as my special name for her.
