I think you should stick with the name. You shouldn't use a name that you have to settle for, you should use a name you love. If it was a close family member then it probably wouldn't be a good idea but they are just your friends, no gaurantee they will always be a part of your lives. If you find out before your baby is born that it is a girl maybe you could talk to them about it and see if they would be bothered by you guys using the name. If you don't want to come right out and ask them about it maybe you could bring the subject up about someone naming their child the same name as a friends child and get their feelings on the subject that way.

I am torn on how to answer this because I really don't like the name Addison. I find it trendy and masculine, and generally suggest NOT using it. However, in answering your post I will put myself in your shoes and pretend that it is a name that I love... and in that case, I would still use it. Will you still be friends with them 5 years from now? 10 years from now? That is definitely something to take into consideration.

Admittedly, Addison doesn't thrill me, but I'll tell you the same thing I tell others in this situation: if you're close enough for it to feel like a problem, you're close enough to get their input on it. I'd probably scratch it, because I dislike seeming derivative, but I'd talk to your friends and see how they'd feel. While it's nobody's fault, they might feel hurt if they just find out after birth since they did, as kids say, get there first.
