Need advice about a girl's name please!

I am expecting my first daughter on 1-16-08, and had decided that I love the name Taylor! Now, however, my 14 year old son says that Taylor is a boy's name (he has no less than 2 male friends named Taylor) and wants me to name her Andrea. I would love any advice on this topic, and would welcome any suggestions!! Thanks so much.

I think Taylor could be a boy's or girl's name, despite it being more masculine bc it was a boy's name first (wasn't it?). I would use it if you love it!

Andrea isn't my style (I like Taylor much better than Andrea)...I do love the variation Adriana though.

I love the name Taylor for a girl! My hubby and I are going to keep names to ourselves for this very reason, we want to love the name and it doesn't matter what other people think. Plus I find people funny, they may not like a name when you just say it, but when you introduce your baby with that name, it is what it is.

That being said, of course you care about what your son thinks, but be careful to change your mind just because your 14 year old does or doesn't like it. Not to belittle teens, but they do change their minds quite often and might love the name 10 years from now. I know there are alot of names I used to love as a kid that I don't anymore.

Just do what feels right to you...that's what's most important!

Happy Holidays!

Thanks for your POV! You know, it's funny.... that is so true. Until I found out that this baby is a girl, all of my life I had this running list of "beautiful" girl names in my head. But when I began thinking of what to name my own daughter - about 99 % of them went right out the window! So now, I am thinking of combinations... I do really like Taylor, Andrea, and I also have been thinking that I like Hayley - and then there's a sentimental choice. My only sister died in 2002, and her name was Teresa. I would like to maybe incorporate that, but I am not sure how/in what order/which ones.... does that make sense? I'd love any advice. I am 39, and this is more than likely going to be my only other child aside from my 14 yo son. (I don't do pregnancy very well!) Thanks again, and Happy Holidays to u 2!

I love the idea of honoring your sister this way.

Well, I do think Taylor has gone unisex and you could definitely use it for a girl, but I still get a masculine feel from it. I also think it's been pretty trendy in recent years.

Andrea is a nice choice -- less common. Do YOU like it, though?

Thank you to everyone for all the great input. The naming process can really make your head spin, can't it? SO much to decide, so little time left!!! I'm going to write all these suggestions down and review them for a while, I think.

Taylor is pretty unisex these days, so I don't think I'd be too concerned that it's a "boy" name as so many little girls are named traditionally male names now. It may be important for you to consider your son's feelings towards the name, but that's up to you, of course. He obviously associates Taylor with boys.

It might be a tad selfish of me, but I think if you love the name to use it... once your son (and anyone else) sees that little girl and begins calling her Taylor, they'll get used to it =)

I know a Taylor that is female, and I know countless people have toyed with naming their daughters Taylor. However, I find it already outdated- it was quite trendy a few years back.
