Need Full name for nn "Cammie" (girl)...

My SIL is expecting a baby this fall. She's in love with the name Cammie if it's a girl, but she wants that as a nickname, not the given name. Her husband has nixed Cameron/Camryn and Camilla/Camille as the given names. Those are the only two full names we could come up with.

Their 2 year old son is named Carter. If this baby ends up being a boy it will be Camden or Caden. I think they're open to a name that's a little unusual, but not something that's way out there or made-up sounding. (I saw Camara in a baby name book and thought that would be perfect. SIL's best friend/cousin is named Tamara. However, then I said the name out loud...Camara = Camera.)

Do you ladies have any suggestions that I can pass along?

These are a stretch....

Camea,

Camaria,

Camella

Camyra,

Camalie

Instead of forcing the name... Why not make Cammie, Cameron, Camilla etc a middle name?

Actually, I think Camdyn is really cute on a girl too. I know you said Camille/Camilla is out, but what about Camellia (ka-MEL-ee-a)? It's a type of flower, and I think it would be lovely on a little girl.

k my coworker named her baby a beautiful name and i think it will work perfectly for the nick name Cammie.

Camaya

(pronounced Ka-may-ya)

not "yeah" but "ya" ---as in "ya all come back now ya hear" :-)

the "ka" and "ya" have the same "a" sound

I like your suggestion of Camara ... it does not have to be pronounced like "camera". I like it pronounced Cam-ahr-ah, with the emphasis on the second syllable, rather than the first. (sort of like the pronunciation of "tomorrow") That is actually the way I pronounce Tamara if I'm not corrected on it :)

I like Camara...I would pronounce it

Kah-MAR-a. I think that's beautiful, and the nn Cammie would work quite well for that!

Another option: don't rack your brain looking for a name that begins with "Cam-", and wind up with a multitude of options that you like but just don't love and are just searching for something so you can use that nn.

I would suggest thinking of other names that start with "C", or even "Ca", and then what you can do is use a middle name that begins w/the letter "M", and use the nn Cammie b/c when you put the first syllables of the fn and the mn, that's what you come up with!

For example (and these are just examples, I don't know if you like these names...or even if I like them myself, lol...)

Carla Mae

Cassandra Michelle

Calista Meghan

Just an idea....

Best of luck to you!

Though many view the name Camden as only a boys name, I think Kamdyn/Camdyn sounds incredibly feminine and would love it to be my name. Just a suggestion. If they don't like Kamryn though, they may not like Camdyn. Camry/Camri/Camreigh is another suggestion, though using a "K" instead of a "C" may help the name NOT look like the automobile.

Good luck!

I read thru all the responses, and here's what I think. The people who are saying the pronunciation -Ca-MAR-Ah would be OK for Camara are correct, however, if you spell it Camara or Camera, people are still going to say it like the word camera, which takes a picture.

here's my suggestion - spell it Camarrah.

the other suggestion I liked was Camelia. I agree, that even tough it sort of sounds made up, I have heard it somewhere, I think maybe in a song. Could I be right about that?

I think those are the best two choices, the most feminine.

good luck.
