Hi I am due with alittle girl on Nov 14th and we just can not agree on a girls name. I am at a loss! My favorite name is Riley and dh's Sarah so as you can see they arent on the same page exactly. So with our two favortie names each out we just need some help. He wants common and plain and I want not so much. So here are two names we kind of agree on but not sure we want to use yet......what to explore more lol!

We like Audrey and Kirsten. So they are "plain" but not to plain like Sarah, Kelly, Lisa etc but not to out there either. Any help would be so much appreciated!!! Thanks again!

Hi, Valerie! My dh and I had sort of the same problem, only I wouldn't budge until I found an unusual name that he actually liked.

I have always loved the name Kirsten. To me, it is neither plain nor overused. Lovely choice.

Audrey is very pretty but becoming quite popular.

Suggestions:

1. I came up with a small list of names that I think are neither plain nor totally out there. Maybe one of these will be a hit.

Miranda, Tabatha, Mia, Bridget, Camille, Carina, Genevieve, Reese, Gabriella, Zoe

2. Maybe your hubby could go for a name that has a recognizable name in it but has been spunked up a little:

Leah- Aleah, Mileah, Analeah, Talia

Laura/Lauren- Laurel, Larsen

Natalie- Natalia

Ann/Anna- Ansley, Annslinn, Rayanna, Anabel, Leanna, Annika

Lindsay/Lynn- Linley

Rebecca- Bekka, Becca

3. Or if you don't have a mn yet, perhaps he would warm up to a Riley-type name if he could choose the mn or if you put it with a very traditional mn. --Riley Elizabeth, Riley Kathryn, etc.

4. A double name to soften Riley- Riley Kate, Riley Beth, Riley Ann, Riley Grace, etc.

5. A traditional name for him that has a fun nickname you would like-

Cora- Cory, Allison- Ally/Lissy, Gabriella- Gaby/Elly,

or just the opposite - an unusual name with a traditional nn he could use- Ellison- Elly, Emerson-Emmy, Carrington- Carrie, Meredith- Merry, Penelope- Penny, Annika/Annslin-Annie, Jillian-Jill

6. Or name her Sarah Riley and call her by both.

7. Or what about Kiley?

Best wishes, Ginger

I absolutely LOVE Kirsten Riley(as does our sisiters!) and have been trying to sell him on that. He does like Kirsten (btw to neat about your name and b-day!!!!!) and we had it picked out with our son but now he just doesnt know he says. I think he likes Audrey better, which I like but just not sold on either. I know he doesnt like Riley at all but I told him it would just be her middle name!!! I will let you know how it goes lol!

Hmmm...okay, this might be a stretch, and it probably won't suit your DH's style, since it's not plain, but it DOES kind of combine both of your choices....

What about something like....

Sariyla-- pronounced Sah-Rye(like rye bread)-lah...

It's got the "Sar" and the "a-ending" of Sarah, and they "Ry" and "l" sound of Riley. I don't know of that's the best spelling, either, but maybe it's something to work with...I don't know...It might be too "out there", lol...

Or what about Sarina? It's like Sarah, but a little different. The only thing is that it doesn't seem to coincide with YOUR style (more your DH's) at all...it doesn't really have the same feel that Riley does...

I do like Audrey, though. I think it is very nice and while it's not unusual or over-the-top, it's not too common, either.

Well, best of luck to you!

Kirsten Riley is very pretty, plain but not to plain. I like Kirsten Sara but not at much as kirsten riley, but it may make your hubby happy.. Kirsten is also still kinda uncommon, but not as common as Kristin/Kristen.

Good luck! I cant wait to hear what you choose.

I like Kirstin the best of all four of your choices including the original two of Sarah and Riley.

I think Sarah is much too plain, over-used, older fashioned

Riley is unisex, although it does seem to be leaning more toward the girls lately

I think Kirstin is a cute name, but you don't hear it so often that you need to fear five per kindergarten class etc.

I'm not crazy for Audrey, but I really do like Aubrey, it's amazing the difference a letter can make sometimes.

speaking of which, I also really like Cara or Kara. maybe that one letter could push your husband over on that too.

good luck.
