Hi everyone,

This is our first child and I am seriously freaking out about not having a name yet.

I like Rio for a boy, but agree with you about the spelling. I'd say Ryo like 'rye-oh', not 'ree-oh', on first glance.

I really like Rio (this spelling) and even tried to talk my dh into it. But our ln is German-sounding, so he didn't like the Hispanic-sounding fn with a German-sounding ln. Rio means River, another name I also really like for a boy (but dh doesn't). I'd say go with Rio!

As for a mn, I don't think you can go totally traditional/classic with this name; it would seem odd to me (like Rio Thomas or Rio William). I'd go with something also somewhat funky ... how about Rio Blue? LOL, some people don't like two word names together, but I think it's fun. Or, what is your dh's first name? Middle name? Your maiden name? Would any of these work for a mn?

I agree with you, everyone will misprounce it. If you do go with this name then I would at least compromise and spell it Rio. I think it should be a name that has meaning to both of you though, like a family name or a place you both love. Good luck!
