Need help on Boy's names

Hi, DH and I are expecting in April and we just found out yesterday it is a boy!

Anyways we thought we had our boy's name picked out, but we aren't sure anymore. The name we had chosen was Desmond. We both still like it a lot, but we're not sure it is the one. Other names we like include Sebastian, Gareth and Alastair. I'm looking for other suggestions though. We want something that isn't biblical (or at least obviously biblical), isn't too out there so no Tomato or Pilot, isn't in the top 100 (would prefer not in the top 300), and is recognizable while not being overly common. Also we won't be using "family names" since traditionally in my family we don't name children after the living, and none of my relatives have died yet in my lifetime (which I really do appreciate). Ranking our current choices would be:

1. Desmond
2. Gareth
3. Sebastian
4. Alastair

Thanks for any help and suggestions.

Desmond is actually for Desmond Llewellyn who is Q in the James Bond movies. DH had suggested the name, because he liked the actor's name and it was something we both really liked.

I really like Orion, but unfortunately I am bad at pronunciations, so even though I know how to pronounce it I pronounce it wrong every time I see it. And DH's rule is if I can't pronounce the name we can't use it (seems fair enough of a rule to me).

Damian is actually on our list if we have a second boy. We really like that and Donavon, but not enough to move our other choices off the list. We figure either name will go really well as a brother to whichever of the names we do chose though.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions.

Thanks to everyone else who has replied so far as well. We have narrowed our choices down a bit more, while adding a name. Our current choices are:

Desmond
Gareth
Griffith

In no particular order. We decided that even though we both like Sebastian and Alastair we like the other three names better. I am still looking for more suggestions though if anyone has any. At the moment we seem to be leaning towards Gareth, though I think I like Griffith a bit more.

Thanks all.

Hi there, Sarah. Congrats on your little blue bundle!

I really like your style. All of these names are great. I'd have to admit that Griffith is nms; I think it's because it's diffacult to say the 'f' sound w/the 'th' sound. I adore Gareth though. Gareth is great.

Here are a few more suggestions (sorry for any repeats):

Atticus

Alec

Abram

Adrian

Bennett

Calder

Calvin

Caspar

Curtis

Dashiell

Elliott

Emerick

Francis

Frederick

Harris

Jasper

Jerome

Julian

Lewis

Martin

Oscar

Pierce

Sullivan

Simon

Silas

Vincent

Weston

Xavier

Hope this helps!

Thane
Grady
Sylas
Good luck!

I love Gareth. Very unique, but strong and not too 'out there.' Thia would be my first choice from your list.

Desmond - that one could grow on me, but it sounds like an older gentleman to me.

Sebastian will forever remind me of the Little Mermaid, so nms.

Alastair reminds me of a character on the British comedy, "As Time Goes By," but very few Americans would know that show - so I like it.

AJ, enjoying life with C.

I think this depends on where you live. All these names sound very British. Where I live, Los Angeles, Gareth would be the best bet.

Thanks for the suggestions. I actually really like Casper, but DH says no because of Casper the ghost. I also like Jasper but DH says semi precious stones work better for girls names. He is apparently fairly opinionated about names, who knew? I actually had Bennett on my possibly one day list as well, but I can't use it currently since it would be for my Grandfather who is thankfully still alive.

We are leaning towards Gareth at this point in time I think. Though both Gareth, Griffith and Desmond are still on our list till we get a list of middle names from my father in law.

Thanks for the suggestions. I really like the name Darius, but unfortunately I knew someone with the name and it has given it bad connotations so we won't use it.

We are definitely leaning towards Desmond or Gareth with Gareth in the lead at the moment. We decided to drop Sebastian, because although we both like it, we both like our other choices more.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately Griffin is a no go. Both DH and I really like fantasy and Griffin is too fantasy based for us. DH doesn't want to name him after a mystical creature that we come across in various games we play. Which is why Griffith is probably not going to be used either.
