How would you pronounce the name Selene if you saw it? The source I found it on said it was pronounced se-LEE-nee. The pronunciation I'm GOING for is se-LEEN. Would I still spell it like Selene - just pronounce it the way I like? Or is there an alternate spelling for the pronunciation I want?

I think Celine would suit your pronunciation. I, too, would pronounce Selene the same way as Celine.

I would pronounce it Se-LEEN, certainly not with 3 syllables. like the pp said you could use Celine, but that is so associated with Ms Dion I would avoid it.

I would pronounce Selene the way you like -- Se-LEEN. I think actually Se-LEE-nee is a bit misleading. I don't think that's meant to indicate a strong EE sound at the end. I think it's more of a pronounced "n" sound that is almost an "eh". Imagine Se-LEEN being said by soemone with a Greek (or Itlian) accent and maybe you'll understand what I'm trying to say. I've never heard this said with a strong "ee" ending.

I prefer this spelling to Celine or Celene, but I think either of those works as well. It's a pretty name with a rich history. I like it a lot.

I'm with you -- I would say se-LEEN, like Celine Dion. Honestly, I think se-LEEN-ee is ridiculous based on that spelling.

having taken French, I'd pronounce it Suh-LEH-n, or Seh-LEH-nuh

Although Celine would probably be the easiest and most straight forward pronunciation, I really don't like the spelling. It's just the association with Celine Dion that turns me off to it. From what most of you have said, it sounds as though using Selene would still be fine, though. Thanks for the feedback!

I would go with "Celine" - although I would pronounce "Selene" the same way, myself.

I looked at it and thought Sa-LEEN

the singer Celine Dion is spelled that way - if you like the S better yould do Seline and maybe that would work

I don't think Selene prounounced Se LEE NEE is well-enough known for people to see that in it

personally I'd rather see you go with Celine for that pronunciation, but actually what I like better is Selena

good luck
