My husband and I are expecting a son in just under a month. We have had a boy's name picked out for like 8 years now, but my father recently passed away and now we are unsure of what we want to do for the middle name. We were originally going to name him Dietrich Michael. Dietrich was my grandfather on my mother's side and Michael was a good friend of mine that was killed over 9 years ago. My father's name was Albert Allen and my husband suggested we do Dietrich Allen in honor of my father. I like the idea, but I love the name Dietrich Michael, hence my conflict.
Another reason we had chosen Dietrich Michael was because Dietrich is an unusual first name and we wanted to give him a more normal middle name in case he didn't like it. Now Allen is not an unusual name either, but I don't know that he would like to go by it, not as normal or as common as Michael. Ahh! See I go around and around with this. Please help me. My husband says it is my choice, but I can't seem to make up my mind. I appreciate any thoughts or opinions and Thank you in advance for your help.

I think Dietrich is an awesome name, and I prefer Dietrich Allen. I think it is more important to honour your father, even if you don't love the name as much.

HI Paula -
I think I prefer Dietrich Allen too. It's a great way to keep the family connection & honor your dad.
