Hi ladies! I've lurked here throughout this pregnancy looking for name ideas and now I need your input. I'm due in a few weeks and we're having second thoughts about the name we've chosen! Here's our dilemma...
We had decided on the name Case Adrian for the baby. We want something unique (but not "out there" or made-up sounding); we want something short (our last name is Lowery, not a long name, but kind of a mouthful); we want something that isn't going to be shortened (Im not a fan of nicknames); and we want something strong. Also, middle name is either Jack or Adrian, after my grandfather.
So far, Case is the ONLY name we've agreed on. While we both really like it AND it meets all of our "criteria" we're having second thoughts for a couple of reasons. Mainly its the reaction we've gotten from friends and family when they ask what we're naming the baby. A few have either loved it or hated it, and told us so, but most just give that "I have nothing nice to say, so I'll smile" look paired with "thats cute" or something along those lines. Don't get me wrong, for the most part I really don't care what other people think -- he's our son and we should choose the name, but at the same time we take the naming thing very seriously and don't want to give this baby a name that is going to give him problems throughout his life. I don't care if people don't like it because its not their "style" but I do care if it sounds made up, or has other negative aspects that we haven't considered yet.
So basically I'm looking for some honest feedback on the name. Also, if you really don't like it it, feel free to suggest alternatives (we don't agree on ANYTHING else) however, we don't like the name Chase, so please don't suggest that (as MIL has SEVERAL times!). Other names I like: Owen, Reid, Jack; Other names he likes: Parker, Carson.
Thanks in advance -- you ladies always give such well-thought-out and honest advice/suggestions and that is what I'm looking for.

Are you Dutch? My dh is Dutch and he has an uncle named Case in Holland and his father's name is Adrian along with every other older dutch man I've met, lol. Although for some odd reason they go by Jos (pronounced Yose). Case Adrian - I see a Dutch name with those 2 names paired together. Sorry, I have to say I dislike it.

I think Case is a fine name.
I chose my sons name because of much of the same criteria you mentioned. I wanted something short, for which there are no nicknames. His name is Brock.
Case isn't necessarily a favorite of mine, but I like it. I think it's cute for a little boy but ages well and will sound professional on an adult.
Here are a few if my favorites you might like:
Tate
Cole
Max
Grant
Henry
Jude
Miles
Tad/Thad (this is usually a nn for Theadore, but I think it could stand alone just fine)
Other possibilities: Ace, Max, Brant, Brent, Burke, Drew, Gage, Reece, Trent, Zane
Case is not really my style, it doesn't sound like a name to me. I love Reid however. Carson is nice as well. Here are some to consider
Blake
Scott
Finn
Ian
Cole
Mason/Mace
Micah
Miles
Rafe
Rhett
Jace
Jett
Isaac
FAVES
#1) Rhett Adrian Lowery
#2) Isaac Adrian Lowery
#3) Micah Jack Lowery
I don't think Case is all that bad, actually! I can definitely see it as a boy's name. If other peoples' reactions are getting you down, tho, I also like Owen.
Also, how about Cole or Colby?
I quite like the name Case, although it does sound like a nn. What about naming his Casey (unless you percieve that a girls name, I quite like it for both!) That way you can still call him Case as a permanant nn!!
Casey Adrian Lowery?
Hi, Joy. :) To be honest (since you mentioned it was important to you the name not sound made up), I haven't ever heard this particular name for a child, and the first things that came to mind were a court case or a brief case. I have, however, heard of Casey, and I'm afraid many (not you, of course, but friends, teachers, schoomates, etc.) will try to call him this. I don't know if you've thought of it already (and I haven't gotten to read the other comments yet, but I will!), but if you don't like nicknames, I'm afraid you will probably get one with this name ... obviously not a "shortened" form, which is why you may not have thought of it, but the added Y ending is simply a diminutive, and I can definitely see someone just assuming the Y is missing/it's a typo and calling him Casey anyway, KWIM?
I do LOVE Owen (and have you considered Ewan?) and like Reid and Jack. Parker is nice, and Carson is ok. Another similar name you may like is Carter.
HTH!
