Need help with son's name

Hi ladies! I've lurked here throughout this pregnancy looking for name ideas and now I need your input. I'm due in a few weeks and we're having second thoughts about the name we've chosen! Here's our dilemma...

We had decided on the name Case Adrian for the baby. We want something unique (but not "out there" or made-up sounding); we want something short (our last name is Lowery, not a long name, but kind of a mouthful); we want something that isn't going to be shortened (Im not a fan of nicknames); and we want something strong. Also, middle name is either Jack or Adrian, after my grandfather.

So far, Case is the ONLY name we've agreed on. While we both really like it AND it meets all of our "criteria" we're having second thoughts for a couple of reasons. Mainly its the reaction we've gotten from friends and family when they ask what we're naming the baby. A few have either loved it or hated it, and told us so, but most just give that "I have nothing nice to say, so I'll smile" look paired with "thats cute" or something along those lines. Don't get me wrong, for the most part I really don't care what other people think -- he's our son and we should choose the name, but at the same time we take the naming thing very seriously and don't want to give this baby a name that is going to give him problems throughout his life. I don't care if people don't like it because its not their "style" but I do care if it sounds made up, or has other negative aspects that we haven't considered yet.

So basically I'm looking for some honest feedback on the name. Also, if you really don't like it it, feel free to suggest alternatives (we don't agree on ANYTHING else) however, we don't like the name Chase, so please don't suggest that (as MIL has SEVERAL times!). Other names I like: Owen, Reid, Jack; Other names he likes: Parker, Carson.

Thanks in advance -- you ladies always give such well-thought-out and honest advice/suggestions and that is what I'm looking for.

Joy

I'm not crazy about Case. To me, it sounds more like a word than a name. How about:

Cole
Corbin
Colton
Connor
Drake
Grant
Neil
Jake
Luke
Alec
Ryan
Nate
Griffin
Collin
Kieran
Caleb

Joy,
Good luck w/ the naming thing. Really like the name Case but I don't care for it w/ Adrian or Jack. Unfortunately, here in upstate NY Jack is an extremely popular first name so I'm not keen on that name either. You'll have to ask yourself "Will he be the only _____" in his class at school? The other thing is, have you thought of two middle names?? When I got pregnant, I told my significant other that if it's a boy his middle name was going to be Donald after my grandfather. Well of course that sparked conversation and he wanted to use Joseph also for his grandfather but not as a first name b/c there's about 100 Joe's in his family (Italians). So we found a first name and his middle names are Joseph Donald to honor both grandfathers. A girlfriend recommended to me finding a name and then saying it out loud - you'll get a feel for the name (esp if you're repremanding him/her).
Good luck and congratulations. I hope this helped a little bit.

How about the name Shea? It is really a unisex name and can't be shortened. My sister loves it, the only reason I even know it. I am 13 weeks now, and my husband and I have decided on Ryan or Elizabeth.
Good luck and stand by your decision. You have to love it, your husband has to love it. That is it!

I feel your pain ;) My son is Gage and when I was naming him in 93' all of my relatives did the "oh, that's nice" or "like a car gauge?" Frustrating yes, but we didn't let it deter us. If you both like Case then go with it! By asking others you are just going to get the same mixed reaction that your relatives will give you. Us unique namers will say, "it's great!" but the traditional namers will give you the thumbs down. He is your son and children grow into their names. Gage absolutely loves his name as does everybody else around him now (to include those relatives that turned their nose up at it, lol:)

With that said, here is my honest opinion about Case: This is a rugged boys name, ALL boy and it very cute. Will he have people occasionally make fun of it? Yes, of course. Kids find ways to tease other kids be it in a fun way or mean way. He will probably have people mistake it for Casey or Chase. Gage often gets Gabe and he hates that, but that is part of the burden of having an uncommon name. There are burdens with popular names as well (I was Jenny with an R when I was growing up due to the over abundance of us, lol) I know you personally don't like nn's but when he grows up he may want something more formal. You could always put something like Casen on the birth certificate and just always call him Case. That way he has an option later. Overall I think it is a great name. I also love Owen and I am considering it too for my next one but the popularity of it lately is overwhelming. I think you guys should go with Case.

I know you said that every Dutch man you meet is named Adrian but I think it is a great name for a boy! Not so sure about Case, because it is such a heavily used noun here in the states (case of beer/soda, suitcase, cd case, etc.). There's my two cents, hope ti helps...

Hello!

I love the name Case. In fact on the show "without a trace" just a couple weeks ago the son's name was Case and I said to my husband I really like that name! I say go for it. It's a one syllable first name to go with the two syllable last name. I think it's great- I wish my husband liked it as much as I do! Good Luck!

Joy,

I am not too fond of Case (I keep thinking of cases in the grocery stores or something along those lines.) It is a very uncommon name. However, how about Adrian Case Lowery? I kind of like that. You get to keep the name you like. Just a suggestion and my thoughts.

Good Luck and take Care!
