Hi! I just found out I'm having my 1st girl after 2DS and there seem to be a lot more names to choose from! Most of my list consists of pretty common names.... Kate, Kristin, etc. but the one name I actually like a lot but is sort of unusual is Scarlet. I am hoping for some honest opinions here since I do not like to share the baby's name with friends and family before they are born. I have a feeling my mother will HATE it, but maybe that's not a good enough reason to disregard a name I like! I also worry that she'll get the nickname "Scar". What do you all think??

Personally, I think it's too old-fashioned and not my style. If it's something you like then stick with it. I don't know of any Scarlet's around here which could be a good thing. Congratulations on having a daughter after 2 boys. I'm hoping my luck is as good. I have 2 boys and we are planning to start trying to conceive next spring (fingers crossed for a girl). Good luck!

I think Scarlet is a beautiful name. It is not very common, but not unheard of (of course!). And your mother may hate the name, but once she holds that dear, precious baby, she will get over it! :)
Good luck to you.
I like it! I especially like that it is not heard very often. Your daughter will likely be the only Scarlet in her class. A Scarlet will stand out nicely in a sea of Madisons and Emmas.
Oh and if you do choose the name Scarlet, once she is here - your family will not be able to imagine her with any other name. Plus, they will love the name as they love her!
I personally don't care for it. aside from being known for a character in Gone With the Wind (I think) - I only ever knew one in person - she was a little older than me (which would make her mid-50s now)
I'd say not only the nickname Scar is possible, but having mean kids call her Scarface will also be possible
Kate pretty plain and common. Kristin is kinda dated to the 70s/80s, keep looking would be my advice
good luck
One of the moms on the other baby names board just named her daughter Scarlett Jane, and another one is thinking Scarlett as a mn...so while it's definitely an unusual name, I think you're not alone in liking it :P
GWTW might be the first thing that comes to mind for those of us above 30, but Scarlett Johansson and Mick Jagger's actress/model daughter Elizabeth Scarlett Jagger are probably just as familiar or more so to a younger group.
I'd say go for it! Nicknames aren't just derivatives of your baby's fn :)

How exciting, a girl after 2 boys. Congratulations! I honestly love the name Scarlett. I think it's a beautiful name. The most important thing is that you love the name. Make sure that you go with your gutt feeling and trust me, you will not make a mistake!!
Good Luck to you and your little girl which I'm sure will end up having a beautiful name..
