Hi everyone! SO and I have always wanted to adopt, but recently we have being doing a ton of research on it and have decided that we want to adopt a boy and a girl from Ethiopia. We have been searching sites, trying to learn a bit of the language (Amharic) and learn about the culture. We have always thought we would use family names as mn’s, but now we are thinking that we will use an Ethiopian name for the mn. If anyone knows anything about Ethiopian names or Amharic, we need your help!
Our favourite first names right now are Matilda and Elliot/Elliott (which spelling do you prefer) nn Tilly/Tillie (again, spelling?) and Eli.
I have been researching Ethiopian names, and found a few that we both like:
Matilda Sitina P**** - means “joined by love”
Matilda Salome/Solome P**** - means “peace”
Matilda Tegegenech P**** - means “she is found”
Elliott Eskinder/Iskinder P**** - taken from Alexander (SO’s name)
Elliott Zelalem P**** - means “forever”
Elliott Tesfaye P****- means “my hope”
According to the website, all of these are Amharic names, but we definitely want reassurance of that, if anyone knows the language. What are your thoughts on the names? Know anything about them?
THANKS!
-Nikki
Oh yeah, also need help with pronunciation of a few- want to make sure we have it correct!

I like Matilda & Elliot with one t.
From the list of names:

Love Matilda and Elliott (prefer this spelling, but only because it looks more "complete" in my mind). ;)
Can't help with pronunciations of the mns you've listed, but BTN also mentions Desta, meaning joy in Amharic (I'm guessing the literal word, since they have it as unisex), and that seems to translate rather easily (though I get the repetitive thing if you do go with Matilda). They also have Worknesh, "you are like gold," and a male name Tafari, meaning "he who inspires awe."

I think it is so great that you are going to adopt! I hope to as well someday.
Matilda and Elliot(t) sound great together. I like both Elliot and Elliott - I go back and forth on which I prefer - today I think 1 t. As for the Tilly/Tillie - I like Tilly much more, it seems less fussy.
Of the mn you have listed I really like:
Matilda Sitina P**** - means “joined by love” - what a beautiful name
Elliott Zelalem P**** - means “forever” - great meaning
You might also like Dahnay Always "Safe" and "Well". (Amharic).
Thanks everyone for your ideas... I think that Matilda Sitina and Elliott Zelalem are our favourites. I love the meanings- "joined by love" and "forever" :)
How would you pronounce Sitina and Zelalem? I want to make sure I have it right. I am saying...
Sitina- "sit-EEN-uh"
Zelalem- "ZELL-uh-lem"
Thanks :)
