My sister is having twin boys. She and her dh already have the first names picked out. They want to name their boys Cedar and Dusk. They absolutely LOVE unusual, weird names. I know many of you will not like those names but people have already tried to discourage them from using Cedar and Dusk. My sister and her dh have made up their minds. So, moving on, does anyone have any ideas for middle names? They do not have to start with the same letter. Thanks!

How about Tree and Bunny? Just kidding. I think your sister really should consider the effects these unusual names will have on their kids before she goes on her Harlequin kick. That being said, it would really be nice if they would stabilize the bizarre names with a couple of traditional middle names. I mean, at this rate, the only way these kids will ever be successful in life is if they are featured on the front of a cheesy romance novel in their twenties, but a good middle name would at least give THEM a choice their parents selfishly wouldn't allow them.

Cedar should have a strong middle name to go with his woody, earthy first name. Then again, you have to be careful: he could come out sounding like a lumberjack (ex. Cedar Jack, Cedar Ben). It should be more than two syllables; otherwise, it WILL sound corny and cheesy. How about Benjamin, or Cameron, or maybe even Xavier. That will take the edge off a "splintery" name.

Dusk is a little easier. Though I still think I'm stuck in a bad episode of Knots Landing or The Bold and the Beautiful, we should still come up with some ideas to take the hippie out of these names here. Dusk Dakota, though a little alliterative, is kinda okay. Dusk William, Dusk Donovan, Dusk Alexander could also work. It should be something that is a little rhythmic, as well as serviceable; otherwise, it could cause this kid YEARS of teasing and therapy. This is the reason I like Dusk Dakota. I know, I know, I'm leaning to the Fabio-fantasy these names incite, but it's better than Dusk Oceanica or whatever other crazy Greenpeace moniker your sister could have in mind!

Well, if it is of any consolation, at least they'll have each other to beat up the other kids who make fun of them. And who knows? Maybe when they are older, these names will lead them to exciting new lives as CK underwear model twins! Hey, it could happen!

Cedar and Dusk are kind of out there. But I don't think that necessarily implies any particular characteristics of your sis and her DH. I certainly don't think these names mean they are hippies or in Greenpeace. Though if they are that isn't a bad thing. To each their own!

Okay, saffronica73, I think you went a little overboard there. Just because the_moth's sister and her dh like the names Cedar and Dusk, does not automatically mean they are hippies or in Greenpeace. They just might like unusual names, okay? Personally, I think the names Cedar and Dusk are neat. I know I like them much better than the traditional same old John, Matthew, etc.

And how do you know these boys are going to be teased their whole life? Maybe the other kids will think Cedar and Dusk have "cool" names. I have a neice named Evergreen, and the kids at school actually compliment her for it. Not once have I seen her come home from school in tears because kids teased her about her name.

What I'm saying is, maybe you should watch what you say and be a little more open-minded.

By the way, the_moth, I think Cedar and Dusk are neat names, although I do not have any middle name ideas.. yet. :)

Best of luck to your sister and her dh!

Wow, geez! Take a hint! I think a little humor is necessary when your sister has picked out some pretty out-there names! Those names, like it or not, sound like they came straight from the sixties! I'm not being closed-minded, I'm being honest! If her sister wanted to name her kids John Kerry and George W., it wouldn't be any skin off my nose; I was just trying to infuse the situation with a little humor. Whoah, some people wouldn't know humor if it came around and bit them on their Cedar-hard, Dusky arses! Anyway, I liked my ideas for names; guess you missed that part in your desperate need to get all indignant. With strange first names, you have to be careful to make certain the name as a whole grooves. Cedar Jack and Cedar Tom would sound STUPID; no doubt about that. Cedar with any one-syllable second name would make their name choice sound trite and tacky. Dusk is still the easier name to match a middle name to, though a three-syllable middle name would give it a rhythmic flair. I only apologize to the original poster if she found my comments a little offensive. To siren, I could give a rat's arse less what you think. That is my opinion. Get over yourself, and stop making yourself the loud-mouth busybody of this board!

Loudmouth? Busybody? Excuse me! I did not mean to start an argument. I was only stating my own opinion. You don't need to be so hostile and rude about it.
