Need a name for our baby boy!
| Mon, 06-26-2006 - 5:06pm |
I've been lurking for awhile trying to get some ideas and decided I should probably just post and get some feedback.
We are expecting #3, a boy, in Oct. I have a ds Tanner and a dd Baylee.
My dh is set on naming him Dakota. Now, I do like the name, but both my kids had a "Dakota" in their class last year. Is this still a popular name?
My top pick is Owen with the mn Henry (family name). Most likely Henry will be the mn for whatever we decide on.
Here are some others I liked that dh nixed:
Weston
Jaxon
Spencer
Gavin
Quentin
Cameron
Casey
And I really like Myles but our ln is Long. DH and I both actually like this name, but is that just asking for teasing?
Any ideas are welcome, and I would love some feedback on Dakota- too popular?
TIA!

Hi Melissa~
While Dakota is nms, I can appreciate it.
Well, sorry to say I don't like Dakota at all. However your other names look great, my thoughts:
Weston - great choice with Tanner. I like this for you a lot
Jaxon - spell this Jackson and I like it, although it is mighty popular
Spencer - nice, not my favorite though. Also it ends with the same sound as Tanner and that seems to trip me up
Gavin - Different feel from your other kids, but not bad
Quentin - LOVE THIS!
Cameron - Not a bad choice, being used a lot for girls, but still predominantly male
Casey - Cute, but I don't think this grows well and Casey Henry doesn't sound great
Myles - Miles is just about my favorite boy name, but Miles Long is really ripe for teasing.
Here is my opinion on your names.
Weston - this is okay
Jaxon - love this name
Spencer - nmsaa
Gavin - to different from your other kids
Quentin - nmsaa
Cameron - like it
Casey - has never been a fave of mine
Myles - i love this name and it is really cute with the "y" in there

It seems that you and I have similar tastes!
Weston is my ds's name so of course it is my fav. from your list.
Owen is on my short list in #2 is a boy, and I think Owen Henry is so sweet
Myles I really like with Tanner and Baylee
here are some other names I really like, since we seem to like some of the same ones:
Mason
Roan/Rowan
Nathan (my dhs name)
Brecken
Corbin
Merrick
Reid
Holden
Good luck, and keep us posted!
Dh and I have run into a similar situation ("Myles Long") in that I like the name Noah, but our last name is Waters and he thinks that would sound silly.
I like the name Dakota alright, but it definitely has become a relatively common name. And I seem to know an awful lot of pets name Dakota, at least 2 in our extended family, which is weird because I also have a cousin whose middle name is Dakota.
I really like Weston, Quentin and Spencer, but it's so hard to find the middle ground with Dh. Good luck!

hello!! i like the name dakota...and i havent heard it yet. cameron is really popular in my area-my dd went to school with a cameron and 2 of my friends have sons with this name...as for myles, i like that name, i really do-its not too common and its a nice name...i dont see it as asking for teasing-if they want to pick on a kid, they will regardless no matter what their name is. dakota is good, but so is myles...i like owen too-but that name is pretty common here too-ive heard of about 2 or 3 born in recent years...good luck to you!!!

Dakota is definitely a cool, cowboy sounding name. However, I did also think of the young actress Dakota Fanning, who starred in that movie with Tom Cruise recently, so I would be wary that it might make a big jump for little girls.
My favorite of all the other names you listed is Weston Henry, nn Wes.
Hope this helps!
