Need a nickname for...

Yes, I know we have polled many times about the name London (for a boy) and we've gotten a lot of useful feedback (thanks for that!). After long thought and discussions we are deciding to go with it. We have 1 or 2 back up names just in case it doesn't fit when we meet the baby but we are pretty sure it will bcs it hasn't left our hearts at all when we say it regardless of some of the criticism we have received.

Now, we are looking for a good nickname to go with London (remember, it's for a boy).

We don't really like Don or Donnie or Lonnie...any ideas??

Thanks in advance for your help and feedback,
Carey

I honestly can't think of any besides Lonnie/Donnie that come from the name. If I were you, I'd probably just call him London. I'm not much for nicknames. What about his initials? Have you chosen a middle name -- maybe you could call him LD or LS or something? (Actually LS sounds like Ellis. So depending on the middle name, you might be able to come up with a name like that for a nickname.) Or you could just use a totally unrelated nn -- Sport, Buddy, Buck, etc.

My son is Aidan and that doesn't lend itself to nicknames either...

Sorry, but I just don't get "planned" nicknames. To me, a nick name is a term of endearment and something that you give to a child after knowing them. If you want to plan on a nick name then choose a name that can be shortened. Otherwise, just leave it to chance!

I have also been searching for a name with a cute nn (girl). But I am starting to think that if you aren't planning on calling your child by their given name anyway, why name him/her that? My advice is if you really love the name London then stick with it. A nn will emerge on its own eventually. But, if you don't plan on calling him London anyway, why not just pick a name you don't want to change?

Good luck!

I don't really understand nicknames that are as long as the formal name...?Why does everyone seem to need them these days? I understand if the name you love is really long and it would be convenient to have a shorter name such as...

Victoria = Vicki
Stephanie = Steph
Joseph =Joe
Lucas = Luke

But if you like London so much, why change it?

Also, the nicknames that people come up with have little or nothing to do with the original name!

example:

William can be Bill, or Will, why Liam? Liam is a completely different name. If you like Liam, name him Liam! Just because the formal name contains those letters, doesn't mean that it should necessarily be a nickname.

Just my two cents...
