Need pretty Italian girl name suggestion

Francesca? Sophia? Julia? Lia? Oh where do I begin?

I am suddenly an emotional basket-case when it comes to deciding on a name for my first child, a girl...due in May. I am a second daughter and was given a cute name which I always felt was too cute (Melody Lane). I want a name for my daughter that conveys something stronger and unique. I think a name starts an important process in a person's life. My husband (from Northern Italy) came up with the name Kyla, which to my knowledge, does not mean anything, (but I am researching).. it is definitely unique. A good friend suggested Francesca with the statement that it is "elegant, strong and beautiful." Like every parent, I want the best for my daughter. I am hoping your suggestions can help. My parents are not approving of this pregnancy, so there are only hateful suggestions from that corner. My siblings are supportive and leave it up to us. Thus I turn to the 'peanut gallery' for assistance due to my hormonal brainless moments. Thank you for your suggestions and understanding.

Italian names are so great, to me. Just had to answer your post...

Yes, Lia, Sofia & Julia are pretty. And, Francesca is a great love of mine. But you have the perfect excuse to use a really unique & beautiful Italian name without sounding pretentious.

Top Twenty Italian Baby Names for 2004 (in order)-

Maria, Anna, Giuseppina, Rosa, Giovanna, Teresa, Lucia, Carmela, Caterina, Francesca, Anna Maria, Antonietta, Carla, Elena, Concetta, Rita, Margherita, Franca, Paola

I LOVE- Giovanna, Lucia, Caterina

Others I like- Antonia, Alessandra, Ambretta, Bianca, Cecilia, Liviana, Martina, Priscilla, Sabina, Simona, Violetta, & Viviana

Particularly- Giovanna (could nn Gia or Gianna), Sabina & Lucia are so pretty!

About Kyla- I have actually heard this on a female twice. It's pretty. But I think there are gorgeous Italian names for your daughter that would have a more special meaning.

Keep us posted! Ginger

You poor thing...pooh on your family for not being ecstatic about your bundle! We'll all be excited for you.

I love the fact that you want to use an Italian name. Here are a few of my favorites: Isabella, Francesca (like everyone else), Alessandra, Lucia (!!), Bianca, and Giuliana (this is pronounced like Juliana--it one of Pavarotti's daughters' names).

Of those, I like Lucia best. It's not overly popular, and you can call her Lucie affectionately.

Good luck, CONGRATULATIONS, and let us know what you choose!

I think its kind of funny that you dh picked a name that starts with a K because I don't think there is a K in the Italian alphabet. My dad was also born in No. Italy and my mom picked K names for my sister and I Kelly and Kimberly. We have a new baby in the family named Rosalia Antonette. We also have cousins name Nuncia (Nancy) Maria, Nicola.

Kyla means narrows, channel, strait and is a female version of Kyle.

This site is more correct then most other sites, I havent found any faults in the swedish names section so I trust this one. http://www.behindthename.com
