DH and I have always struggled with names, and as we get ready to adopt baby #3, I know this will be a challenge as well.
To give some background, DH is Frederick Scott (goes by Scott), and I'm Stephanie Renee. Our last name is 3 syllables, starts with H, and is of German heritage.
Our older DD is Megan Joy, nn Meg. Joy is the name of DH's favorite aunt.
Our younger DD is Julianna May, nn Annie. Juliana was my great-grandmother's mn, and it was the only name we could agree on. We added the 2nd N b/c DH preferred the ann-uh pronunciation. May was my grandmother's mn.
We like names that aren't "trendy" or in the top 10, but aren't terribly uncommon. DH hates last names as first names. Our last name is difficult, so we need a first name that's pretty easy to pronounce and spell. We also like using a family name as a mn and would consider a family first name, but it's not required.
Some other names in our family...
John
Beatrice May
Marilyn Frances
Irma Elizabeth
Charles Wilbur
Paul
Pauline Alice
Gregory Paul
Sandra Jean
Nancy Annette
Does anything come to mind for you? I'm open to all suggestions at this point. :-)
TIA,
Stephanie

Thanks for the ideas! We probably wouldn't use a family name in both the first and middle name slot, though. Those are some great combos, but I'd have to make sure that one name came from each side of the family in order to be "fair." :-P
Elizabeth Frances would work since those were our maternal grandmothers' middle names. We have a friend with an Elizabeth, but she goes by Lizzie, so we could always use a different nn. Hmm, that's not a bad idea after all.
Alessandra is a beautiful suggestion, too, but as I mentioned to someone else, it might be a little too fussy for us. DH used to really like Alexandra, but I don't think either of us was ever completely sold on it.
Thanks again,
Stephanie
Somebody else suggested Ian, and that one could really grow on me. I like Luke a lot, too, but one of my good friends just used it, so I couldn't do it. We considered Jonathan Scott at one point (in case one of the girls had been a boy), but I think we both really prefer John. And Nicholas is a great suggestion -- I'll have to run that by DH again -- can't remember what he thinks of it.
The girls list is less our style. Hailey and Kyla are too girlish for me, and I have a hard time picturing them on a grown woman. I know that Avery is becoming unisex, but it's still all boy to me. Ella is sweet, but it feels more like a nn to me -- I do like Eleanor, nn Ella or Nora, though. And Marilyn is nice, but I don't know that I'd ever really want to use it -- I don't know that it's quite ready for a comeback.
Thanks for the suggestions!
Stephanie
