I LOVE names that are unique and very, very uncommon. I would like my child to have a name that no one else will have. Please suggest any unique, very uncommon names that you can think of (boys' and girls' names). Thanks!!

What a coincidence! I just met a girl named Cheslea....which I thought would be pronounced Chez-LEE, but was Chez-LEE-uh. She's 7.

Me too! I searched until I found a name for my son and daughter that no one else had, according to the SSA site. One thing I think some uncommon names lack is true appeal. So, here, in my opinion, are obscure names that are still attractive. I hope I don't repeat other posters: (I only listed names that I actually like or considered).

Very, very uncommon, your child probably won't meet another one-

Boys: Ames, Locke, Maddux, Kingsley, Royston, Sadler, Alden, Guedron(gedd-ryn), Gainer, Leland, Lachlan (lock-len), Lawson, Zephan, Larson, Channing, Calder (call-der), Collier, Jorgen, Treighton, Hart, Hunt, Burke, Berkeley, Hartley, Mantz, Metz, Lev, Lot, Afton, Thompson, Garreth/Gareth, Tobin, Worth, Torr, Mercer, Kilby, Halston/Halstead, Kash

Unique, but I do know someone with each of these names- Finley, Archer, Stefan, Mitchum, Nash, Brigham, Brighton, Hudson, Walker, Weston, Easton, Drake, Seldon, Shelton, Hamilton, Quincy, Rex/Rexford, Cardin, Brynson, Benson, Boyce, Ramsey

GIRLS-

Very, Very uncommon- Windsor, Sorrel, **Wetherly**, Jarrett, McKay, Larsyn, Rainey, Corliss, Mabry, Morleigh, Adaire, Ariadne, Sabina, Sorcha, Serafina, Honor, Saree (sair-ee), Nealy, Ayla, Erienne, Hollis, Kerridy, Perry, Perian

Unique- Raven, Hadley, Laken, Carrington, Channing, Xanthe, Rainey, Arden, Annika, Waverly, Lorelei, Neve (neeva or nevvy), Jolie, Jacey, Dacey, Arleigh, Fiona, Bianca, Thea, Gemma, Lorien, Kerria, Kerriss, Andraya, Shann, Adelaide, Annaleah, Brantley

Let us know if you need more! I've got plenty where those came from. Ginger

I have an unusual name that I've never found anyone else with, it's Deslie. For a girl I like the name Zaye (like Faye with a Z). My kids are Gage and Jace which are not that unusual, but we have never met another child with those names.

Good luck, Deslie

Girl names:

Wallis - Wallis Simpson was involved in British scandal, one of the Princes abdicated the throne for her. She was quite unattractive, but I love the name for a girl.

Acacia (A-cay-sha) - I spelled it Acasia, we call my 5 year old Casi (Casey) for short. Her mn is Jenay.

Good luck in your name search!

Good list!

I always loved the name Eowyn from LOTR, not as taken with the spelling as with the way it flows.

Most of the names I thought to post were already posted, but I do have a few links with some really great offbeat names.

The first one's got some weird ones, but there are good ones mixed in with the bad.

http://www.alternativebabynames.com/

Here's a site with lots and lots of really good names. Some of them are popular, but there are lots of unfamiliar and or ethnic names here. http://www.angelfire.com/retro/purple_vinyl/grt_fem_nms.html

Best of all, she gives the meaning and or etymology of the name too (where it came from/what it means) The link above is just girls. Boys is here: http://www.angelfire.com/retro/purple_vinyl/grt_masc_nms.html

The last two are two of my favorite babyname sites, I hope you enjoy them too! Good Luck!

I don't have as many as the others, but I do have a few that are in my family.

girls:

Donata - "gift" in Italian (my name) I know others exist with my name, but I have yet to meet any of them (I'm 25).

Carina - "beloved" in Italian (my DD's name - also spelled Karena, Karina). I have met one other.

Annika - (which I've seen a few other posters mention)

Josephina

Domenica - "Sunday" in Italian - nicknamed her "Sunny"

Can you tell that I'm Italian LOL!

For a boy, the most unique names I've heard are Tristan and Finley.

These aren't unheard of..but still not all that common.

Girls..Maren, Machen, Kennedy, Eaden, Aiden (org. a girls name), Cindell, Keely, Marley. For Boys, Berkley, Sidney, Keagan, Keaton. If you like unusal names, start paying attention to last names as well. They can be really cool and new as a first name without sounding too unusual....That's how I came up with Kennedy 20 years ago. (YA! THAT'S RIGHT, I DISCOVERED IT!!!!!!)
