I am also from the south and I have never heard of a Gemma. Very pretty and unique. I can't say that it won't become a new "hit" name, but since you are ttc and don't have a due date or anything I think I would just wait it out. If you really love the name, go with it. I have the name Layton picked out for a boy and a lot of people go "oh, that's different" but I love it, and I know as soon as I pass that name up it'll become popular and then I'll never use it, so I don't think it should matter. In the south I don't think it'd take over. But if you're not sure maybe you should come up with a few back up names...and start a poll.

I doubt that being a Bond girl will make her name that much more common.
