New here...looking of suggestions

Oops...meant to say looking FOR suggestions. Sorry.

We have a short last name -- Kidd -- so I'm looking for some names that flow well with it. I'm only 11 weeks so we don't know the gender yet. I like somewhat different names, but not too different. I suffered (and still do to some extent) with a different name (Paget -- pronounced like Pageant without the n) and even to this day when I meet someone new, it's, "What was that? What kind of name is that? Is that a family name? Are you French?" Ugh. I'm just a person, just like everyone else. Get past the name please!

Anyway...I kind of like the name Violet for a girl. Or Chloe. Is Chloe to cutsie with Kidd?

For a boy I like Andrew, nn Drew, but is that too short? Drew Kidd? We have one son named Jordan.

Thanks for the help!

Paget (ugh)

well, I like the name Chloe a lot, but I'm sorry, I don't like how it sounds with Kidd. And, sorry, but I think Violet is way old-fashioned. I think for girls especially, 3-syllable names sound really good with one-syllable last names. here are a few that I think are "different" in that they're not overly popular, but they at least are known, recognizable names. I'd avoid hard C names and K names completely.

Brianna, Delaney, Desiree, Hilary, Jocelyn, Johanna, Larisa or Larissa, Marissa, Mallory, Natasha, Rhiannon, Sabrina, Sierra, Sienna, Samara, Tiffany, Vanessa.

there are some 2-syllable names that would flow well with it too, it just have to have the "right" sound

Amber, Aubrey, Chelsea, Molly, Maura or Moira, Rayna. I think because Kidd starts very hard and ends very hard, the two-syllable names that end hard just make the whole thing too hard-sounding. the 3-syllables names break up that hard sound.

I would avoid any names that can result in a one-syllable nickname. for instance, I did not include "Jillian" because the inevitable Jill Kidd is just too abrupt sounding.

for boys, well, the rules are different for boys somewhat. boys can survive with hard-sounding names. Andrew Kidd sounds fine, I don't care for the sound of Drew Kidd, Andy Kidd would be much better. here are some other boys names I think would fit better with the style of Jordan and sound good with Kidd - again, I'd avoid anything that can go down to a one-syllable nickname and all Cs and Ks

Anthony, Donovan, Dustin, Dylan, Garrett, Hunter, Ian, Jeremy, Mason, Noah, Preston, Spencer, Tanner, Trevor, Wesley. that was kind of hard, because most 3-syllable boys names go down to a one-syllable nickname. of all of those I like the sound of Jeremy, Preston and Wesley the best with Kidd.

good luck.

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions! Now I really have some thinking to do...I will consider 3 syllables for girls since I agree they sound nice with Kidd. I like Savannah, and Sierra. I still think Violet is cute, but old womany is not the effect I was hoping for! :) I just like the color purple, and I love the flower. Oh well.

Wow. Luckily I have 6 more months to decide!

Violet is a beautiful name and it sounds fine with your last name.

Andrew Kidd also sounds fine, though Andrew is nms.

I think Violet is just lovely and so is Andrew, for that matter. They both sound good with your last name. :) Violet's going to surprise the folks who think it's an "old lady" name. There's a Violet is two movies right now.. The Incredibles and Lemony Snicket. So I think Violet's on an upswing. It's definitely refreshing after all those Lily's!
